it has an engine!
It all boils down to....it's their money and their choice. How many guys on this site have super chargers....lots, 435hp is not enough??... but do they use that power? It's all about choices in this hobby. And opinions of course, like yours probably has merit but do I care....no, I just want something nice and hope I can slam on the brakes in my city driving like a normal guy. I do not track my car.

I didn't need the red GT start button either...but I got one and didn't care about the cost like a whole bunch of other guys.

The op stated it was an aesthetic thing only in the first post.
Aesthetics is one thing, paying for an aesthetic that decreases your performance ability in a panic stop is another.

While I agree with you on pretty much all counts, the chances are that their tires will be the limiting factor in braking in a panic stop, not the rotors, as they're not going to have RE-71Rs or NT01s or MSC2's on a car for "show" (at least I don't know why you would).

Somebody please point me to where I can find a light weight 2 piece rotor to replace my PP rotors that is not cross drilled and or slotted. I picked up the Aerospace street setup front brakes but do not like how much the stopping power was reduced (even though it saved about 60lbs off the front end). I have the Baer eradispeed rear rotors and the fronts ordered. I could not find a non drilled slotted option. If anyone is interested in a great deal on the Aerospace brakes for drag racing, pm me.

They do not make 2 piece lightweight that I could find for the PP mustang and the ones they do make are at least slotted. I don't mind slotted as much and agree that drilled is just for looks. I don't think it will matter for me too much with the drilled as I don't track race the car, just street driving and occasional drag. That is why I finally gave up and ordered the ridicules priced Baer rotors. FML

So I daily my car and after being told the 6 piston brembo isn't a huge upgrade for someone who doesn't track the car, I have decided to keep the stock GT brakes and add some drilled and slotted rotors for looks instead of the brake upgrade. Has anyone heard of these? I was thinking BrakeMotive but these look a little better in my opinion.
Man....talk about Segway !! This thread has gone totally sideways!! If there is no response to this initial post...and the Track Guys are very upset we want drilled rotors..

Please start a new thread...."Track Rotors" would be a great title! I seriously don't think they would approve/sell drilled rotors if they Thot they would kill people.:cheers:

They finally got tired of seeing NT555's on everybody else's car?

It's still a valid concern - none of us knows whether anybody is going to try driving on the track and either thinks that his racy-looking drilled rotors are the hot tip for that or forgets about them entirely. Or they sell the car to somebody else who's at the same knowledge level.

Best case, they assume that their customers won't be tracking their cars, aka "plausible deniability" (he never told us he was going to pick up a track day habit). Since the average driver rarely uses much more than about 50% of his car's braking performance, (and never when there is no immediate need to do so) they're on reasonably solid ground with that assumption.

They assume people understand that drilled pads do have their limitations.

Worst case, P.T. Barnum was reputed to have uttered the explanation 150 years ago.

Reality probably lies somewhere in between.

Looking at the pic of the R1s it looks like the cooling veins are drilled which is a big NO-NO . Be careful there are companies out there drilling through the veins and knowingly selling these rotors . I got a set from a company in Cali. black zinc coated slotted and double drilled and they where all through the veins , their jig wouldn't allow any other way. when i called they refunded my money and said keep them and the pads.
BrakeMotive rotors are made by PowerStop , their holes are not drilled through the cooling veins . Mine were $226 delivered 4 rotors and ceramic pads . They look good , never rust , no brake dust , and they stop great , all in all a quality product . I don't track my car , but every day its gets driven very hard and not just in a straight line i love back roads with lots of twisties and i've given these rotors a workout on many occasions. Yes if this was mostly a track car I would use different rotors but for the street these are fine .
As far as someone was saying made in China, most all your rotor blanks are made in China and then lug finished by the companies here, and yes some of your big name brake companies get their blanks from china.
There are 2 topics here for sure Track ,n Street . I guess the only thing we will agree on is to disagree . I'm running cross drilled slotted rotors on my car so if it scares anyone don't come to Virginia LOL

Totally understand Norm... however the clarity of use was in the very 1st opening post of this thread....."For Looks" maybe start a separate thread Drilled/Slotted rotors Not for the Track" and explain the pitfalls and perhaps get some more input from the Racers as well....it may be helpful information...just to be on the safe side. ( not being a smart-ass! ) this was intended as a show/appealing purchase, not full on racing.
I wasn't singling you out . . . except for your clear description of limits on intended use being what I wish I'd see from the rest of the street and show segments of this hobby. Not just in this thread, or M6G, or Mustang forums in general, either.

I will grant you that drilled rotors do catch the eye, but so does a shiny 6-carb intake with rear-facing stacks from roughly the same era. If you ever see a 6-pot setup on an S550, be sure to take a picture.

Promise the rest of us that you'll periodically inspect every rotor for signs of cracking, and discard any rotor that has a crack you can catch a fingernail in.

Generally the show folks won't go for a tire like that with some pretty significant ride, noise and wear penalties, but yeah it could happen.

I'm very interested in the Baer Eradispeed. Let me know how you like them when the fronts come in please.

My Stoptech st-60 (drilled) big brake kit for my 4,200lb S4 is specifically made for road race use. They are intended to operate in the 1200* range with the race pads they come with. Street driving you won't ever see much more than 250* temp range so I use their street pads. I've had these brakes so hot, it turned the black anodized rotor hats burgundy and I've had zero issues in the last two years. All drilled rotors aren't created equal and not all drilled rotors fail, so we will have to just agree to disagree on the subject Norm.
