I absolutely hate it too. I get around it by not fully shutting the door I just let it barely latch when the car is running.

What kind of device do you need to use forscan? Could any of you guys do a basic write up of tools needed and the procedure?
A laptop or ChromeBook with a USB connector and one of these:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F0GVBWY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Join the ForScan forum read through it carefully.

ForScan can do a lot of useful stuff:
Turn the fog lights into cornering lamps, Disable or change the panic button, increase the number of lane-change flashes, etc., etc.

I have a laptop, and just ordered that usb device. I am looking at https://forscan.org/download.html for downloading the program but they mention licensing and other stuff. Is that required? their website is designed very confusingly. I downloaded the forscan for windows newest version and it does seem to come up on my computer.

After I get this device and download the program onto my laptop, do I just need to plug the device into the obdII, then look for that line to change the horn honk under configuration and programming?

You need a license, but they're free. You do need to renew it from time to time. I suspect not many renew the license unless they need to make more changes after the license expires. I doubt I'll renew mine. I've made all the changes I believe I'll need.

Make sure you BACK UP the current config. Also, don't ignore the admonition to connect a battery charger.

Don't be in a hurry! Read through the info several times. You can make multiple changes and then upload. I do mine one at a time.

Isn't the simple solution to just shut the car off?
That would make it difficult to diagnose a noise or do something else under the hood that required the motor to be running.

Then don't close the door completely. not difficult at all.

+1 on using Forscan. Nice to not have to hear the honk anymore.

Just read through the ForScan documentation closely. It does seem intimidating (and I used to work in hex).
Here's the entry in the BCM:
Double-honk 726-41-02: xxx0 xxxx xxxx
Change the fourth digit to "0"
Measure twice, cut once still applies here.
Make the change, but double check your numbers before you apply the change.

If you have any issues, post a screenshot or describe the problem and we will try to help you through it.

What I do is always take a screen shot of my original values. If I ever sell the car one day (not likely) I can restore everything to factory settings.

Horn honk off for me.

+1 on using Forscan. Nice to not have to hear the honk anymore.
Also nice to have the lane-change turn signals run longer, not having the damn panic button go off just 'cause I squatted down near the car, having the head lights come on sooner, etc., etc., etc.

I keep a steno pad and write down what the setting was before the change, so I can go back. Used to have to do that working with Windows 3.1. THAT sure saved my bacon many times.

I tried to connect to my car but it was unable to identify the vehicle. It said "If PCM has a custom tune installed, please enter strategy/calibration name or part number of Factory PCM" I do have a custom tune. Can I just use the tune name?

Does anyone know if these forscan type of changes are possible with HPTuners too? HPtuners can change a whole lot of stuff but I dont know if it can do stuff like disabling horn honks etc.
