Quick question - does the current gen Mustang have a system where it will chip when it locks, or is that not a functionality (wasn't sure if I was missing something in settings)? I always feel like I have to listen carefully to hear it click lock with I touch the door handle. Thanks.

It's not clear to me whether or not there is a way to add a chirp to the door lock function. When I hear the lock-unlocks around the neighborhood, I'm SMH. It's so 80s.

Why not just press the lock button twice on the remote? That honks the horn to tell you it's locked.

That requires actually holding the fob. Since I don't need to hold the fob to unlock the car or start the car, its not consistent to have to hold the fob to get clear feedback that the car is locked. And for anyone who keeps the fob in a purse or anywhere other than an easy accessible place, double pushing a button on the fob isn't practical.

I still can not believe the car doesn't have a setting to automatically lock when you walk away. So next best thing is a clear indication of some sort that the manual locking really happened. Touch controls are not foolproof. Just touching a place on the handle does not guarantee the car is locked. With my 2016 GT its a little easier than other models/years due to the turn indicators on the hood flashing.

Now I have heard it all.

How did we all survive without keyless entry?

If you can't be bothered to hold your keys, I guess you are truly hosed. Not sure what to tell you.

We may be distant relatives. I remember my great grandfather saying similar things about how electric starters turned automobile owners into wimps. Fortunately, I didn't inherit that gene.

The other indication is the red LED at the top of the door panel. Contrary to the typical complaint of LEDs being too bright, this one is too dim. It is hard to see if it is on at all during daylight. Unfortunately, it also times out and switches off while the car is still locked! Not sure the logic there...

Well, I could certainly do that. But, guess what - Ford actually designed the car to where you can lock it by touching the handle (like most other cars now on the planet). So, I prefer that method - call me crazy. My only point is that (unlike my other and prior cars, that subtly beep once when you hit lock with your hand), the Mustang doesn't appear to have that functionally. Yes, I'll survive without it. I really will.... It's just occasionally annoying to graze the handle as you're moving away (thinking you locked it) but you're pretty sure you didn't hear the very subtle locking mechanism sound (so you swing back to do it again to be sure, often realizing it didn't lock on attempt #1).

I look at the turn signals in the hood (yay '16!)... but have also looked at the red LED to make sure it's locked (no window tint).

timing out the LED is to conserve battery. It's not much current draw, but lock your door at the airport and come back a week later... those two LEDs would leave you stranded.

The Ford pass app will tell you if it's locked too

And dont forget that all this negates the whole concept of advanced keyless entry, where you only need to have it with you.

THIS.

I can't wrap my head around this either. Especially when you consider it probably only requires a software update to do it.

Betcha that someone with Forscan knowledge can figure out a hack... because the car will auto lock the doors once the speed limit is greater than 15mph. So there *is* the capability of the vehicle auto locking itself, just need someone to figure out the hack to have it do the same when stationary.
