Just how many of the new 2.3 motors have been blown. Ive seen the thread on ecoboost blown and it looks like about 4 others have chimed in saying theirs went also. Its a little scary, some say its from bad tuning some say its boostmax. If you lost your motor let us hear about your experiance.

well the DI ecoboost range (1.6, 2.0, 2.3) are all prone to low RPM/high load detonation. I've seen soooo many modded Focus STs with destroyed pistons, it's crazy. it's like being in 6th at 30mph and flooring it for the simple fact that they can pull with some boost, and bam, it's done for.

It seems to be from LSPI. Lots of people admitted it occurred when flooring it in high gear. The Ecoboost has a tall 6th gear as well, which adds to the danger of LSPI. The engine has knock sensors, but they detect knock and then retard timing. They don't prevent knock in the first place.

If you get a proper tune, and downshift so that you're at 4000 RPM when passing, you'll be fine.

It's not just the EB's either. KIA/Hyundai have have have the same issue with their GDI motors, especially when tuned.

Cheap mods and tunes can be more expensive than the initial cost...buy quality or start saving for the inevitable problems down the road.

Also Mazda and Subaru. The Germans seem to be the only ones where I don't hear to much about it but maybe it's just because they are running lower boost?

Probably, because 95% of cars over here are manual and people usually don't downshift when overtaking on the Autobahn. We also get advised all the time to upshift as soon as possible to save gas.
The manufacturers must be aware of that I guess or else we should see blown up cars every day.

Maybe I should stop doing 4th gear pulls getting worried. I think it's bs it can't be completely avoided with tuning but oh well I guess...

IIRC Adam fixes this problem with his tunes. I downshift anyway but it is nice to know this isn't a problem with my car. Tune+ for the win!
