Couldn't Ford do GT350/500s and other performance models as niche/specialty market vehicles, and still be profitable? They could likely get away with charging a few more thousand per vehicle and forbid dealers from adding ADM.
They definitely could but the thing with branding and PR is that you have to have a consistent message. You can't tell people you want the future to be like the Jetsons and then still have old-school muscle cars with big loud engines. Right now they're trying to keep both sides happy, but it won't last. Every press conference they give they keep saying how the future is electric and autonomous. The hybrid Mustang is the first step, eventually it'll go all electric to keep the Mustang relevant in an all-electric world if that does in fact end up being the future.

Of course they're going after people who sell diesels...they got a pound of flesh from VW and they smell cash.

If I could I'd run the entire agency into a vat of acid.

...or companies can follow the law.

You can keep throwing hp into a turd but its still a big probably 4700-4800 pound plus turd with AWD.

Adding weight and tossing hp at it doesnt fix too much.

A 1,000 pound less supercharged 727hp 5.0 or upcoming 700 plus hp GT500 will do just fine against the turd time wise. That 73hp doesnt make up 1000 pounds by any math.

And lets not forget price; the Hellcat already starts at $63k, expect this at $70-75k. 5.0 even premium with $10k for the supercharger, maybe $55k.

A 800hp 4700lb Challenger power to weight is 5.875
Current Hellcat 707hp power to weight is 6.28
5.0 supercharged 727hp (assuming 3850 lbs superchrger adds 100lbs) power to weight is 5.30

The amount of salt in this thread is already off the charts. It comes off as sour grapes of your bringing up an issue with diesels at FCA or "ohhhh its going to weigh xxxx so it sucks".

We can all sit here and talk about how "great" the upcoming GT500 will be... but all I have heard from Ford in terms of upcoming vehicles is about "city of tomorrow" and a Mustang hybrid with "V8 LIKE" power LOL... Not everyone has to like Dodge/SRT, but its tough not to give them credit for pushing the MUSCLE CAR performance to levels we have never seen from a stock car before.

Is it just me or does this continual mashup of model names disturb anyone else. First the 4-door Charger, now the Challenger becomes a Demon (remember that name was a variant on the mid-sized Duster model). Why stop there, maybe a Challenger Demon Daytona with a huge spoiler on it?

^^^The gear-heads understand this fully, it's the guys/gals that get caught up in numbers that don't understand the Challenger is overweight compared to the Camaro & Mustang. It has the most power/torque for an Americam production car, but it leaves a whole lotta "performance" on the table due to its girth.
That's absolutely correct! Stock for stock, it's got the most HP and TQ out of any modern day production muscle car. Pretty impressive actually. 2 years running now. I will give it that.
(They are having a heck of a time with those Supercharger bearing though!! :headbonk:)

Where are you guys/gals reading that the DEMON has 800 HP?! I can't find that anywhere??

Never owned a Dodge but I have to give them thumbs up for keeping the horsepower wars alive.. Competition breeds innovation and keeps the prices in check, somewhat.

It won't be awd.
Also Demon and Adr are not the same models. That's what I've hear from another forum(coming from a known insider).

As i do understand, the Demon will have an ADR package available for a more Strip oriented car.
Its gonna be fast.

Not worried. Lets be honest besides the 50th Anniversary there was no serious talk about the GT coming back. Then Detroit NAIAS, we got the GT, GT350R, and Raptor.

They raced, and then won Le Mans.

Ford is more than capable of developing cars with out the majority of the enthusiast community knowing. The GT500 replacement is coming.
