Go hunt scrapyards for some stainless piping and get a welder. If you've invested enough time and effort into making a 600hp junkyard car (as you say) I'm shocked you don't have that stuff available to you. I'm in Florida too and that motor is going to generate a shitload of heat in the coming months.

hey fellas new to the forum and really interested on installing a diy cold air on my new EB mustang. i know i can buy a new piece from any of the vendors but i like to tinker around. so i figured why not give it a try and save some bucks. it might not be as pretty but it should function. Planning on using a 3" pvc piping and a velocity stack or filter if i decide to. anyone attempted such a feat on their ecoboost? cant be that difficult and the temp sensor can be easily intalled on a PVC pipe. thoughts?

I knew you were gonna get trashed by stepping out of the box. I've been giving a DIY CAI some thought for a while. Had one on my BMW made from 3" electrical conduit painted black and a cone K&N filter. Looked almost OEM and the sound was awesome.

Removing stock air box opens up a huge area to work with. You have 3 3/4" ID(interior diameter) where the air box connects to OEM piping, FWIW.

The op really isn't doing anything that a larger vendor hasn't already done .
A company (I will not name ) since they are a vendor here sold a rather large cold air intake for the 03/04 cobras and they were available in custom colors,but if you looked inside the tube it was pvc you would even see the purple sealant at the joints.

Yes I know...it's a shame the locals have made it to a point where we "outside of FL" people just wrangle you all into one group ;). Again it's just my experiences but FL member of any message board seem to be the biggest contributors of "WTF" kind of question lol

if you really wanted to make your own just for the sake of doing it, at least do it right. maybe use the lost foam technique and make it in carbon fiber. probably going to blow past the price of buying one used though.

i was actually thinking about doing that, yeah itll be way more expensive than buying one but i enjoy DIY projects and sometimes its worth it to spend the money. That and when you pop the hood people will be like " nice carbon hydro dip" ....nope its real

Yeah, lot's of WTF in Florida... Not specifically against the OP or anything. It's his car, just not something I'd do.

plenty of WTF to go around in FL, Tallahassee has like 3 colleges so you get plenty of weird kids/people on a daily basis.
