Well boys and girls... It appears that my problem has become much worse. On the way home this evening I was getting on I-10 and going up the entrance ramp when the guy ahead of me slowed down and pulled over. So I gunned it pretty hard going around him in frustration. Not full throttle but at least 3/4 throttle. The ramp was straight as an arrow with a slight up grade and I do mean slight. No rain or any other reason for what happened I could see and I use that ramp at least 5 times a week.

As he pulled over I was going about 40mph when I gunned it and sure enough the rear end started to come around me on the right. I caught it quickly before I sideswiped the guy beside me. I had a bit of an anxious moment there but quickly recovered. That's the first time this has happened to me when going in a straight line.

I'm just glad it wasn't in a crowded situation or he wasn't really close to me. Methinks my GTCS will be headed to the dealership next week some time and I'll be driving one of my pickups for awhile. <sigh>

As Roberto Duran would say.... NO MÁS NO MÁS
I'm confused. Why are you continuing to test the limits if you're pretty sure there is something mechanically amiss with the car? If you're sure there is a mechanical issue you need to take it to a professional and diagnose.

You misspelled tomorrow
LOL.... Yes I did.... I have obligations that I can't get out of the next couple of days and Monday as well but most likely Tuesday I'll take it in assuming I can get an appointment.

That wasn't a test.... I was merely driving it the way I always have. That was the first time I ever had a traction problem with it in a straight line and I was surprised.

For the record... I fully admit to driving a car that I probably shouldn't be driving at this point. Call me careless and I won't defend myself. I'm gonna take it in at the first opportunity and thanks to all for the help and advice.

Hey, no worries man. And I hope no offense was taken by my comment. I just want you to be safe. I've done some dumb stuff FOR SURE. I'd say the best action is to diagnose to the potential problem and then move on from there. Keep us posted.

Yes... I'll keep y'all posted... I'm curious to find out what the problem is. I DO remember that the first time I took it in and they test drove it they at least changed out the fluid in the rear end and said there were no metal filings in the oil.

Not really sure how it’s a safety issue, plenty of cars running around out there with an open diff.

are you sure only one wheel is spinning? Usually it’s fairly hard to get sideways with an open diff.
That's my take as well. If only one wheel is slipping, how can it go sideways since the other wheel is in direct contact with the road surface and NOT slipping. I actually found that if I stomp on the throttle while turning onto a road, my rear will kind of fishtail because both rear wheels are losing traction so the rear will swing out (with my traction control turn off). If TC is on normal, it won't do it as badly since the car will detect the slip and the stability control will reduce power.

I'll be curious to know if there really is an issue. The behavior you describe is just like mine and every other mustang I've owned or driven. Get on it around a turn and it's going to start to rotate. Hammer on it on an on ramp and its going to spin them!

The factory tires are downright awful only exaggerate the issues, but honestly If I couldn't get my car to rotate on command I'd more concerned that something was wrong.

Guys you're missing the fact that it makes horrible noises at super low speeds and that it will fishtail with only moderate power. I drove my 2020GT over 20K miles and it never even once surprised me, never fishtailed unless I purposefully made it do so and it didn't make any weird noises.

This 2022 didn't give me trouble until about 5k miles then this problem started and kept getting worse and worse to where I have to baby it around turns and finally it tried to fishtail in a straight line with not nearly enough throttle to do that and this is on perfectly good asphalt on a ramp I've accelerated on an average of 5 days a week for almost 3 years and sometimes that was on full throttle.

I know what it feels like when you use enough power to loose traction with both rear wheels and in my autocross days I did it often on purpose. This is markedly different.

If your Mustang's do what mine is doing and it doesn't bother you then that's up to you. As far as I'm concerned there's something very wrong/broken in my differential/axles and I'm going to find out what it is.

The winter here lately has been high 40's in the mornings and low 70's in the afternoons... Surely that makes a difference but not that much... Hard to say.

It’s a gear drive diff and doesn’t have any clutches. When you get on it the gears lock up tight. Watch a video of how it works.

and yes 20 degrees makes a huge difference in rubber stickiness.

I have a 22 GT/CS and have learned to ease out onto my street because it will go sideways in a hurry if I get on it.

the clunking is the outside axle catching up with the inside axle then locking up.

watch some videos of how they work.

OP, sounds like a 450 HP car to me.

Summer tires are going to be slick when under 60 degrees outside. The slick tire will cause chattering at slow speeds and sharp turns.

You ought to come and take a ride in my Nova, it has a detroit locker.

This whole thread....."When I push the accelerator the rear end tries to step out. And I know it's not normal because I autocross". 🤷‍♂️

It sounds like your diff is doing exactly what it is supposed to do and your tires suck.
