Track pack (engine oil cooler, trans cooler, diff cooler, rear spoiler) come standard on the 17'. In 16', you couldn't get that option WITH the Tech Package. The lawsuit against Ford concerned cars that did not have the Track Package, and sometime overheat and go into limp mode, particularly if you try and run it hard on a track.

If you want to track the car but want leather seats and the bigger touch screen, the '17 is a better option. In '16, the tech pack(leather seats) car doesnt have the tranmission or differential coolers making it more of a street cruising vehicle. I bought one because it fit my need perfectly but did add the larger track pack spoiler, which is now standard on the non R versions. The '16 track pack version had recaros and all the coolers but the center stack had a smaller screen. Both are good cars but Ford made it easier to get what you wanted on the 17's. Good luck with your decision.

Yeah the 17 sill plates are horrible. Sheesh.

Another difference, yes the 17's have the track pack standard, but they do come with a higher base MSRP as well (goes without saying but figured I would mention it).

Thanks for the responses! I looked at a few 16's today, discovered that I do not comfortably fit in the recaros. All of the local 17's have recaro's. I have no plans of putting the car on a track but I do plan to install a D1X Procharger. I realize that some may view that as blasphemy, but I don't think I'll be happy with the power after coming out of an 1100whp 15GT. I love mustangs, can't leave the family, but I'm not buying a GT. I had an auto in my 15, I'm ready to get back to shifting gears, and I don't want to deal with the mt82.

This is turning out to be a tough decision with very limited options.

I noticed that 2 2016's I looked at today had horrible lines/fitment of the rear bumper cover, couldn't believe it.

If your are planning to supercharge the 5.2 FPC engine, then you will also need to replace/update the oil pump and and crank shaft gears. There should be plenty of information here if you search for the discussions.

Having had a 16 and now a 17 I disagree. They aren't much if any better at least for me. Still bad QC.

The only other difference I haven't seen mentioned is the soft touch door trim for the 17s.

Hey burnin4, don't forget that lightning blue you wanted is only available on the 17.
