Totally agree that in most places DRL are useless from a practice standpoint. And I also agree it is frustrating that some cars don't let you turn them off.

That said I tend to purposefully drive around during the day and certainly late afternoon with my parking lights on because I like the way the car looks better. It amazes me how many '13 and '14 Mustangs I see that are driving around even at the start of dusk with those beautiful LED tail lights off. If I had that car they'd be lit all the time I was driving it.

DRL's aren't all that bad. The increased visibility is good for safety, and I think some of the DRL modern designs out there are pretty cool looking, including the 15' Mustang and the new 15' Audi's.

I too like DRL's. I can't tell you how many times when it's dawn, sunset, raining, etc. and I can spot a DRL car way better than I can without before pulling out. I always turn on my headlights when on a two lane road or highway as well. I for one want to be seen. Most, if not all, DRL's do not actually project very far (maybe a few feet if that but can be seen blocks away) and turn off if the emergency brake is applied or the car is put in Park.

My only issue has been with automatic headlights. You cannot tell if they are really on or not when traveling in heavy rain - they probably are but how would I know without stopping and checking?

Again, I want to be seen so if these small signature lights that are LED and use extreme little electricity then no problem. Also as someone else pointed out they look really good in both the 2014 but even better in the 2015.

If you run your lights all the time, that's your prerogative. Why should everyone suffer added cost to their vehicle for something they cannot even see? I have them and still think they should, if not be a choice to have regardless the model, at least have an OFF position! There are times they're just not needed. Like I said... if I want to sit at the lake behind my home w/ the engine running for A/C, I don't want to have anyone being nosy about my presence. If my lights can be turned off, most people cannot see me. It's MY YARD, so why should I have to announce my own presence if I don't want to do that? The pickup truck drivers could see you... much further away than other car drivers because they sit up high.
Pretty sure your car running generates enough noise without the minimal light that LED DRLs shine (They don't diffuse like regular lights, FYI, they're pretty much directional. They're there to make you seen by oncoming vehicles or so that vehicles can see you approaching from the rearview mirror, not so you can see better) that your argument about not announcing your presence is a moot point (especially if the videos from Goodwood are anything to go by). It's fine if that's what you want, and I totally agree with what you're saying that you should be able to choose for your own privacy, but your logic is a bit flawed by engine noise.

I started driving with my headlights on after living in the southwest deserts for a while. Sometimes the only way I could tell a car was coming at me or coming up from behind me through the "mirages" on the roadway was because they had their lights on during the day. I figured I could return the favor. A few hundred extra yards of visibility is worth it to me to avoid a possible accident. Plus, the 2015's look awesome. It's one of the few extra safety features I actually like because of the styling they add.

Enjoy your lake though. Hopefully the minor detail of the DRLs doesn't put a damper on your fun.

What I would like to see next is the Laser head lamps like what Audi is putting on the R8 LMS but unfortunately we have some really dated laws.. I think that kind of tech would be awesome on a Mustang!

I actually had Dodge Activate the DRLs on my Challenger it gives it a much better look in my opinion.

but you see.... that is exactly the point of DRL is to distract or get attention... quite honestly, Audi has one of the most tasteful or elegant styles of DRL. Audi was the first to get the LED ones here in the states... Heck, there were commercials about that and comparing to the Mercedes and the other brands as not having them then all of a sudden, everyone had to get them... aftermarket stuff has gone awry with it. The 2016 Audi TT is getting the halo lamp signatures in the front and rear as well as sequential turn lamps.

I like the mustangs DRLs... It was a very tasteful application of those lamps as well as the 2014 Mustang as well. There is a form of originality to it at least instead of wrapping the headlights copying Audi and I applaud Ford for doing that. Next F150 also get the Halo DRLs that are incorporated into the amber turn signals and wraps along the outter edges... I think the rears do too. amber and red respectively.

It would really be cool if there was a halo lamp that accentuates the the design of the rear lights... Just my opinion
What's funny is that BMW had the first set of signature DRLs with the "Angel Eyes/Halos/Corona Rings" that appeared on the E39, at least from what I can recollect (someone can chime in if I'm spreading incorrect info).

Audi's latest trend looks like it's deviating away from lengthy strips to rings up front (odd... considering their rivalry with Munich) and arrows out back, although it doesn't look like every model is getting that treatment. Mercedes is also an unsung leader as of late. The new C, CLS facelift, S/S-Coupe,

Speaking of everyone aping BMW's halos...

I don't understand the DRL hate? It isn't like you see them. I have my headlights on whenever I'm driving anyways. I started doing this in self defense when I was driving a little VW GTI. I wanted to make sure all the giant pickup trucks I was surrounded by could see me.
You've never been parked on the side of the road at night doing... something... you'd rather not have other people see? And wanted to have the engine running for the heat or A/C but not wanted to have lights on for people to notice there's a car there with people in it?

Spend the $50 to $100 for a motel and stop banging in the back of a Mustang lol

As motorcycle rider I don't like DRLs on cars. For years DRLs were on motorcycles whether it prevented being hit by a car is up for question but having every car running DRLs makes it less likely a car driver will notice a motor cylce because it has its headlight on.

In a Mustang? haha... Leave the Mustang at home and take the Vista Cruiser if you're going parking.
