If the car isn’t driven regularly (100-200 miles per month) is E85 a bad idea? I also have local access to 100 octane at a nearby station. Would I be better off with a tune designed for the 100 versus the E85?

I drive about the same amount no issues here in 2 years on E85.

The whole testing of fuel thing is a crazy concept to me and cannot believe people are so willing to do it. Just run the flex fuel tune and call it a day.
The idea of waiting for the car to adjust to and learn the E content in the fuel is a crazy concept to me and I cannot believe people are willing to do it. Just test the fuel, it takes literally 30 seconds.

Have you actually tested fuel and ended up leaving the pump for another station?

Absolutely. Most stations around me have E85 pumps. However, the content is all over the place with the exception of one chain whom I now use religiously and still test every fill even though they are consistently E80 or higher in the summer.

I do not drive my mustang much at all. I could see how having a DD on E85 it could get annoying to test fuel at the rate these cars eat fuel on E.

Well yea that`s what I am kind of talking about here. Daily driving and testing on every fuel seems little crazy to me. Then having to deal with stations not meeting your standards.

Long Term dedicated E85 runner here - E85 race tune. On E85 for at least 15K miles with no problems. No other mods. Our E85 never goes below 85% and is usually between 87 - 90% EtOH. The only thing I've started doing is adding a very small amount of MMO to the tank for lubricity purposes. But I don't daily this car, but I drive it frequently and track it at HDPE events.

OK, you test it and find out it's bad. Now what?

There is no waiting. You fill up and go. The car learns the e content in the first 10 minutes or less while you're driving.

Honestly here in MI, I have never seen it below e 70 here in the spring/ summer.I never tested it in winter because my mustang goes into storage. but, most of the time it's 75-85% at the stations around me. but the flex option is nice because you really don't have to think about it, just fill and go. There are some things you need to do to ensure the car learns the content of the gas in the tank but it's pretty easy to do!

Yep. And if the fuel tests <e70, then flash the flex tune at the pump.
