I was finally able to get the Moderna vaccine after waiting here in Houston! 0 side effects for me (obviously that varies person to person) and the next dose on April 15th! I'm really excited for us to start getting in front of this thing, although states are reporting spikes in cases now that people are getting lax with social distancing and mask efforts.

I skipped the last few pages as my eyes gave up focusing on the drivel but It'll be interesting to see how many variant changes Covid has to make as it runs through the 'take my chance / dont believe its a problem to me groups' before it turns into something really dangerous to everyone. Like the Spanish Flu, wipes out the young and the healthy. That'd be a wake up call for a few folks.

Of course you dont have to worry as Covid doesn't exist and is in fact a global conspiracy by the liberals to gain complete control of the world. It's is amazing how completely different social structures across the world with completely different religious beliefs are all following the same worldwide repressive scheme. It's brilliant, why didn't I think of this plan 10 minutes after creating a pharma company complete with my own Doctorate in SARS coronavirus background. Dammit

Liberal Conspiracy aside, the current Moderna vaccine is effective against the new Variants (eg: UK, South Africa), and is completely effective at preventing severe Covid-19 AND hospitalizations caused by variant strains. Now we need to get vaccinated ASAP to beat the clock on the viral mutations.

FYI - 3 weeks since my second dose and I still don't think Bill Gates is controlling me.

the Pfizer study showed a 3-5x increase in severe adverse reaction (muscle/joint, chills, fever) compared to the first dose. I'll bet nobody giving the shots is pointing that out nor making it required reading during the intake/waiver process.

My wife gets her second shot Wednesday, I get mine Friday. The head pharmacist at my Walgreens already informed us that reactions from the second dose could be more severe and to expect a higher level of discomfort.

For what it’s worth neither my wife nor myself like vaccinations. My wife has never gotten a flu shot and I just got my first one this past fall. We are not afraid of them, but we have concerns. At the end of the day we do not care what anyone thinks. We are doing what we feel is best for us.

unfortunately since it is not a sterilizing vax, it is not humanly possible to vax people fast enough not to entertain evolution pressure and non-trivial probability of 'escape'. Not to mention the major divergent strains showed up LONG before even the first vax was in circulation.

Efficacy against P1 is still very much up for debate.

Hello; there is a wager going on around us all these days. First let me say I do think the covid19 virus is a risk if you are infected. How much of a risk is one of the parameters of the wager. For someone older like myself the risk is elevated in two ways. One is an increased risk of death. Around 5% of my age group (I am 73) do die. Some unknown, by me, number have long lasting after effects from the virus infection. A third risk can be the great cost of being in a hospital if you do get sick enough to be in one.

I managed to avoid the virus for the months it has taken a vaccine to be produced. I am not sure I did not have the virus, but an antibody test was negative. It seems some of the antibody tests do not have a good track record. This has puzzled me for some time. It would seem a simple thing to test for. Give it to a number who have had the virus and recovered. They will have the antibodies. The test might not show the strength of the antibodies but ought to show if they are present. Then use the antibody test with the better results. Anyway my test was negative.

I had to make a wager. Do I bet on the very good odds I would survive the infection and not have lingering long term effects or do I bet on a new vaccine with much reduced testing. A vaccine for which the companies making it have been given immunity for liability if it turns out to have bad long term effects. I placed the bet on the vaccine. At 73 it seems a reasonable one to make.

I now await the outcome of my wager. So far the bad outcome has only been 24 hours of being sick with flu like symptoms. Yes the nurse did mention that possible effect when she gave me the second shot. I was prepared but also was surprised at how bad I did feel. So my wager is made and time will tell if I made a sound wager.

I am pretty sure I would have made a different wager if I were under 50 years of age. I am pretty sure I would have passed up the second dose of the moderna all together if things had gone a bit different. I lost the first vaccine card after the first shot and had decided to let it go if such was to be an issue. However the folks at the injection tent made me a new card. I still do question the wisdom of the second injection. Not just for the suffering a second injection can bring, but also because I was not convinced it was absolutely needed in a time of emergency.
I do hope I did not take a shot from someone else who will get very sick because they could not get a first shot.

This will be tough bet for someone young. The vaccine is an unknown which only time will answer questions about. At this point I do hope the vaccine is safe. Fingers crossed.

I agree 100% with you. If I were in my 70s I would definitely take the vaccine . Even if it’s untested , the Reward outweighs the risk.
But I’m in my 50s, and a very active and healthy one luckily.

I will wait and see if there is a positive conclusion to all this. Then decide a course of action.

I must add, when I am around people who are high risk , I keep my distance and wear a mask.
Not for me, but for them.

Interestingly, I have been exposed to several people whilst they had the virus and were showing flu symptoms. No masks, close proximities, a few hours exposure whilst working. 4 people, 4 separate occasions.
Only later did they test positive. All recovered rapidly.
It would have been impossible for me not to contract it.
I never got sick , so went for 2 tests. no antibodies, go figure.

It doesn’t mean I’ll never get it, but am reasonably sure my system can fight it off for now. I hope haha.
