Indeed. When people claim that over 90% of Covid deaths are misreported or that flu is just as deadly (just to name a few absurd arguments) they are not doing so based on science and the evidence. Frankly, I don't know where they get some of the things they claim. Most lack any shred of credibility or truth.
But as I'm saying, this can be said about both sides. Not just about Covid or politics but everything recently. Short of going outside and looking up, info deemed legitimate on either side will have you thinking the sky is something other than blue. Both sides are right and wrong and everything in between. It makes getting info exhausting to the point where I simply just don't care what color the sky is anymore.

The logic is that if we all took this seriously and thought of people other than ourselves (you know, like a normal human being), the pandemic would be much better controlled and indeed we could go out and do more.
but we NEVER have done so. People get the flu, they go out and spread it far and wide killing got knows how many innocent people, including young children and society doesn't say boo about it.

That snot-nosed brat running around grabbing stuff is spreading chicken-pox and ol' granny who comes along gets shingles and suffers incredible pain and inconvenience for several weeks. Why aren't we killing that kid or better yet his parents for being so gosh darn selfish and irresponsible?

What gives?

This whole idea that Covid is as mild as a cold is complete and utter nonsense.
Really? I know at least 40 people who have contracted this deadly virus that is so bad we need to shut down all our lives and hide in our basements.

None had more than a fever, loss of taste and the sniffles. Maybe some body aches.

I'd say about half of these people are over 60 and a good number over 70. My golf club.

it absolutely is a complete non-event, may not even register as much as a cold for GIANT swaths of the populace. well over 40% of the population was immune from BEFORE we even knew it was a thing. Care to explain that, mr. Science guy?

I'm sitting here for the last 4 days with what I'd charitably call a mild cold. Who knows I might be fighting off Covid. Do I care? Nope. No fever, no breathing problems, no loss of smell, no other symptoms worth a damn. Am I healthy? No, I'm obese. 270lb on 5'11. I can't exercise much because my knee is blown (lower tendon ripped off my knee cap from a slip walking a damn dog) and I live with one guy who socializes with 30 other people every Sunday over dinner (and how many others do each of those socialize with?) and another who visits his sick mom in hospice every 2 days.

And anyway I've got my own stash of Ivermectin should I need to resort to it.

...but that isn't really the case. There is plenty of peer-reviewed, evidence-based information all around us, not to mention legitimate, world-class experts in their fields giving us more than their opinions. You have to discount such things in order to hold beliefs that are contrary.

It is a matter of truth really. The Earth isn't flat. Covid is much more deadly than the flu, masks work, the vaccine is absolutely safe, etc., etc.

This is one of the classical logical fallacies...know which one?

From what I've seen personally the Covid is not as deadly as the flu. Just from the number of friends who have gotten the flu and are no longer with us VS the number of friends that have gotten the covid and are still with us.

If masks work, why are there so many people getting the covid? Where I live and travell 99.9% of people are wearing masks. If the vaccine is absolutely safe why are so many medical professionals not getting it?

Huh? Explain what? 500,000 and counting are dead. Many more are going to have serious consequences from the after effects of Covid (like heart, lung transplants to name just one).

It is true that most will recover, there are a great many people that won't and a great many that will suffer the rest of their lives.

Why all the hate on science? Since when is "Mr. Science Guy" an insult. Illogical.

See - you are basing your ideas on anecdotal experiences you don't really understand. Not meant to be a slight, but I base my statements on fact and evidence and I don't let my personal biases take over (as much as I can - I at least admit I have them)

Hello; I kept up with the numbers for a time. It has been several weeks ago but the survival rate was in the high 90% range overall. Only those of us older folks had a lower survival rate as a group but was still mid 90%. Old folks like me did from being old.

I'm done banging my head against a wall. All of us believe what we want to, regardless of facts, science, or anything else. There is no gray, just black and white. And if you are not on the right side of it, you are wrong. So be it.

I understand things just fine
I base my statements on fact and evidence
Where are you getting your facts and evidence?

How do you know they are true? False reporting of deaths make me question everything I hear from the media and supposed experts.

So that leaves me with looking at what is happening in my circle and none are getting sick like we have been told will happen if we get this virus.

In otherwords me not wearing a mask or getting a shot is not going to kill grandma.

Some of the people posting on this thread must be living in a parallel universe and are very selfish
Wearing a mask do offer a greater level of protection than not wearing one and you wear it more to protect other people than yourself
Was no reason for the mask to become political
btw, even Trump ( very quietly) got the vaccine Shots in January
In 2019 the total death was 2.854,838 and in 2020 ( preliminary) the number is 3.187,096 so you have a net increase of over 300.000

A lot of Covid deaths had co-morbidity and therefore the mathematical equation is not perfect

OK, last one, I promise.

You are correct. But older folks like us are always more susceptible. Nothing new about that. But let me hang this out there. How many older folks were infected by younger folks who were asymptomatic?

By the way that 90% sounds really impressive doesn't it. That means only 33 million dead. It also doesn't include those who were left seriously ill and suffering major aftereffects after they survived. Bottom line is that there is no positive spin on this. It does exist, it is deadly and it is killing a lot of people. Night, night.
