I opted to just go for it based on FP's last statement of "Fall" for cooler kits.

Today is in mid 80s here. My trans temps hit 225 degrees just driving around town. based on the wide delta between the operating maximum temp of the track pack trans at 165 degrees and my 225 degrees, i did not want to wait and risk longevity.
An excellent point often lost in the chatter....

I've been home like 8 days in the last 6 weeks, so honestly, I haven't had the chance to start work on it.

It looks like my work schedule will relax a bit in the coming weeks, so i should get the chance to actually turn some wrenches.

An excellent point often lost in the chatter....
thanks!

Bump to the top.

We all forgot about this thread and I am currently researching getting the bits to install the trans cooler. This thread if kept for its intended purpose could be an easy one stop resource.

I've been bouncing around all the threads gathering the excellent info available on the forum.

A lot has happened since I started this thread last year, most notably that Ford "released" a partial transmission cooling package, and every other aftermarket possibility has faded away. And, it is now a bit easier to swap transmissions and install the factor cooling components, though there is still no OE solution for a differential cooler. There has been some exploration of the wiring harness and pinning out the correct power and sensor sources, but I don't think there's been a full solution posted yet. Maybe I missed it?

And, for what it's worth, I went ahead and fabricated my own cooling system in July 2016.

I plan on drilling and tapping the side port on the lower drivers side of the transmission for my pickup hose connection. I want to keep the fittings off of the bottom of the trans. Is there anyone else that has done this or considering doing this. I may start the install this weekend, I'll take pics of this approach.

I don't recall anyone doing the drill 'n tap, but there may have been some discussion about pros and cons in the various threads.

I concluded that the transmission is high enough in the tunnel that the line connecting to the OE drain hole is not in any great danger of ground contact. It's at least as high as the exhaust, if not a bit higher. But, that doesn't mean a different location is not a good idea.

Let us know how it works out.

Since I am not technically inclined, my question is rather basic. If you replace the transmission and add the cooler, does it communicate with the PCM and do u have a view of the temp just like factory track does?

The factory transmission cooler pump is not connected to the computer. It's a mechanical pump built into the transmission that runs constantly. You can enable the temperature gauge with ForScan on Tech package cars.
