My service manager says they can't do the TSB work because their prior diagnosis was that it was within spec.

I am about to file a class action suit over this unnecessary crap. Ford needs to cut the BS "Some... may..." and tell the dealers to fix the damn things as a recall.
From my past experience if you're having issue with the local dealer take to social media. Mainly Goggle, yahoo, and other car buying/info sites(edmonds/cars.com etc) and leave a negative review for the dealer not ford. If you think the issue warrants it, file a formal complaint with BBB. Dealerships take their reputation very seriously and don"t want a negative review to tarnish their reputation. Just make sure you have evidence to back up your claim (pictures/copies of paper work etc).

It's between them and Ford. Hopefully the Ford rep. will authorize them to go ahead.

I am not going to waste several more hours bringing the car in for a sham diagnosis and then have to return to get the work done.

Well at least there's no cutting involved like on the F150. Their fix is getting mixed reviews as those are slowly being installed.

Looks like it likely is the same blower unit with the insulated snorkel and some kind of deflector added on the exhaust side. Also seems more like a Ford only retrofit vs. something that the unit manufacturer, Gentherm, came up with, but that's just a guess.

I think what would be more helpful, and what we'd all appreciate, is Ford being clearer in their TSB that a computer diagnostic is not an appropriate test for the issue. Perhaps mentioning that the diagnostics will report as normal and that a physical test of the seat is required with an emphasis on heat generated by the fan passing through the seat and/or a loss of cooling over time.

As it is now, it appears the official test for non-working cooled seats is the computer diagnostic only. Without mentioning that test is invalid for this issue there are going to be dealers who won't want to vary from it.

Yes, looks like there's a defector for lack of a better word so that the Ted exhaust goes up to the clear perforations rather than straight back to where the seat pocket blocks them.

The weasel "may" is not promising, add the fact that my car already checked as "per spec", but I'll try bringing it in again and get Deysha involved too.

This new unit has a snorkel from the intake fan running to under the seat so it can draw cool air in, rather than pulling in the air inside the seatback.
If they are also replacing the TED unit along with a snorkel instead of just adding a snorkel to the existing TED, then maybe there was also a change in the TED itself to improve performance.

If anyone takes their car in for diagnostics on this, make sure to tell the service manager that the seat coolers have to be on for at least 15 minutes before they do the diagnostic test in order to see that they stop working correctly. Otherwise, they could show "normal" operation and they will say no TSB for you.

Thanks guys! Good work. I just called my dealer to inquire about the work to be done on my leather seats (seat belt chaffing issue) and also threw in there that there seems to be a fix on the seat cooling issue. Gave him the TSB #, he confirmed and said he'll roll with it. Just a matter of fitting me in for an appointment and get me a car.
The downside is that the weather has gotten cooler and I'm afraid I won't immediately notice the effects of the swap.

I'm afraid this TSB won't actually fix the problem. It doesn't seem to really alter anything much.

A new TED with a snorkel to suck cool air from under the seat ... should be a big improvement.
Agreed. I've said it before but with my mod I have no heating issues anymore and the back does get cool. It remains cools as long as I keep it running and I have ran it for two hours straight. Still not as cool as the bottom but I find it to be sufficient.

Now I get to remove it so they can give me the real thing. Glad to see Ford get to it this year! I don't like how they wrote the TSB but Im not leaving my dealer without the fix!!

I'm sorry. I thought it was just to replace a fan, and they weren't putting in a snorkel?

Long term results not looking good on the F150 side of the house. Most people are saying a slight improvement but still nothing compared to bottom and that it still may get slightly warm after some time instead of getting very hot.
