console ?

so as to not hijack jd_cobra's post it got me wondering just how hard is it to get the console out of one of these. mines an auto if that matters. does the cloth boot around shifter and ebrake handle stay in place or come out with console housing. I'm itching to get at the underside of the cup holders. thanks Jim

The clips in theory should be in the same location as with a manual transmission. I couldn’t have been anymore careful and a few still cracked.
I probably could have JB welded the tabs with epoxy and it would have been fine, but it doesn’t sit right with me, so I’ll just replace it, lol.

It's relatively easy, I haven't lost or broke any tabs or clips on the center consoles yet *knock on wood* but a bit of a task to get out without breaking everything. Here's a prior write up, they're all the same regardless of year. The 4 front screws are 7mm. When removing the upper section, start from the rear portion/tabs and pull up with a quick jerk. Near the dash, pull up and rearward starting on one side and then do the other. Don't pull too hard as the connectors under the cup holders have very little wire length to them. It's a bit of a pain, but do it enough and it becomes muscle memory lol.

ok I was making way to much of this, turned out to be a piece of cake. watched the video above and went smooth, made my mods to cup holder and back together easy. I do like the carbon fiber in the video I hope you didn't plant an expensive seed there!

ya this definitely qualifies as 1st world problems! I drink a lot of fountain pop in 32 oz cups and the little spring loaded gizmos designed to hold a can or cup from sliding around eat holes in the styrofoam. never had any go clear through but wasn't looking forward to a 32oz flood in my cupholder. There is a very simple rubber band system as springs that I unhooked on the front spot and can easily be put back. mission accomplished!
