My local dealer offered me 34,500 trade for my 17 GT vert PP1. I'm looking at a grabber blue metallic 23 M1 premium with the 10R80, elite package, red calipers, upgraded wheels and nav. Sticker is 63,7xx, and one of the sister stores down in Texas has it, the GM at the TX dealer said we could have it.

Would you take the deal?

If your convertible guy you might miss it.

Like mentioned if you’re into convertibles you’re going to miss it at some point. And then maybe feel like you didn’t make the right choice. So think about it hard before pulling the trigger.

I’d do it all day and twice on Sunday, but I don’t like convertibles

If I could afford to I would keep the vert and buy the M1 outright, I've got the room to store both. I've kind of lost interest in the vert over the last few years, I put less than 500 miles on it all of last year. Plus I'm getting older and my left knee is getting worse so driving a manual is not as much fun as it used to be.

I thought about getting a loaded GT vert with an auto, but they cost as much as a mach 1, so why not get the M1.

My only convertible was an ‘88 black/black GT, and I know it’s been ages and engineering has gotten way better, but that car made sure I’d never ever drive a convertible again.😂

To me, the soft tops just never look quite right when they’re up. Makes the car look a little off when compared to the fastback/coupe. Almost square/boxy at the roofline.

I guess my one exception would be the hardtop verts like my brother in laws C8. They look identical to the coupes with the top up.

They have a hard top convertible right or is it a soft top? I haven’t looked at one.

To be honest I only had the targa off my C5 a handful of times too.

The mustang vert is still a soft top.

C8 verts are hardtops. They’re pretty cool and the fold up and down pretty quick. Just the push of a button.

The S550 soft tops just look too square to me and it seems to lose of the curvature in the rear glass sloping down to the trunk (which I would expect from a soft top anyway, only so much you can do there)

And I love convertibles.
When I bought mine I was looking at 04 GT convertibles and stumbled across a great deal on my 18 EB. I couldn't afford an S550 GT vert and the EB power was on par with the 04 GT. Bottom line for me was the drop top was more important than the V8.
I'll grant you that the coupe is a bit sleeker looking from the driver back but, in my opinion, nothing is sharper than the S550 with the top down.

I only drive my vert with the top down so I know it looks good. :)

Back to the OP, since you don't mention a price other than MSRP for the Mach 1, is the dealer wanting to charge MSRP for it? I have seen a number of Mach 1s for 3000-4000 below MSRP.

Edit to add: I agree that soft top convertibles with the top up don't look nearly as good as the coupe versions, but for me 99% of the time the top is down (either in the garage or on the road). The only time I have the top p is if I encounter unexpected rain.

How many miles on your 17? As someone coming from a 10r80 401A magneride PP1 GT, I personally would only go M1 if you plan on tracking the car and want the Tremec 6.

IMO 50% of the appeal is the Tremec and the other half is the track/cornering performance. I would not get it with 10r80...if I wanted 10r80, I would just keep the vert.

Yes, selling the convertible can be tough for a convertible guy. But I get it. The OP is in Ohio. Not the most friendly top down weather. Now, if he was in CA, FL or some such warm weather clime he might feel differently.

100% Agreed! If the OP is going to track it go with the M1 manual.
