does anyone know if the collision avoidance on the 2021 is active and will apply brakes for you?
Mine has beeped and flashed red a lot but i dont know that it has applied any brake pressure yet.

Great question. Last week, I was coming out of a multi-lane roundabout and accelerating quickly onto an on-ramp of a motorway and I got the beep & flashing, but not much else. Also, I'm not sure why it even went off because from what I could see nobody was near the front of me...unless maybe something was on the side of me?

It should work in stages where the first step is to get the driver's attention if the system thinks an accident will happen if no action is taken.

Eventually it will start applying the brakes for you but I do not believe that Ford's implementation comes to a complete stop.

I’m pretty sure you can override the breaks if you accelerate, at least I could on my Golf 7R which was more sensitive than the Mustang but it did save my ass once which I was grateful for.

You can choose what it it will do:

Most of the warnings I get are not exactly false, but things I'm already aware of and feel will clear without any collision, so I don't want it to apply the brakes for me. I have it set to either alert or brake support (can't remember), but would not use "active braking" as I don't think the system is good enough for that yet and don't want somebody to hit me from behind if the system suddenly brakes.

The system might have helped me avoid a collision or two during two years of use though, so the occasional not really needed alerts are worth it imo and mostly they happen when I'm in a rush and pushing things a bit.

hold my beer!

actually the only time it goes of is when im accelerating towards a vehicle. like merging onto the freeway or speeding up to get out of the commuter lane into the fast lane.

I don't think you choose what it does, just the warning and sensitivity sensitivity as per the italicised paragraph. Even on the least sensitive settings it will still apply the brakes.

EDIT: Looks like you can turn off active braking in the US having read another thread, but I don't think it is possible in Europe?

I've had mine apply the braking twice. Once I car ran a red light and passed directly in front of me. The other time was my fault. I had a C7 Stingray try to get away from me, and I jumped on it so fast that I almost ran over him.

That's not how I interpret it. My interpretation is that sensitivity applies only to the visual/audible alerts and nothing else, since the paragraph explicitly talks about alerts and warnings only.

In my case (yes, EU car), I have selected alerts, but not active active braking. So I will get alerts according to the sensitivity settings, but never active braking.

Yeah. I can see it only caring about closing rate.

I use the little car icon that appears on the right as a stone chip warning - if it comes on I back off ... lol

Yeah. I can see it only caring about closing rate.
This is my thoughts too - I 'think' it also senses which pedal you are on i.e. on the brake is reduced sensitivity when compare to closing on someone and still on the throttle.

It doesn't appear to be steering sensitive though i.e. it only sees directly in front of the car and it doesn't seem to make allowance for steering angle and where the front of the car will actually end up.

I could be wrong on any of the above as its just my feelings, I'm not actively pushing or testing the system :like:

This may be another of those differences between Euro cars and U.S. spec cars; especially considering the safety regulations are different.

Never experienced the emergency braking in my daily or the Mustang, a few times it beeps at me with the collision warning. (especially when someone takes a right turn)
The beeping might have saved me once or twice, but thats a if/when case.

I like the thought of it, in my daily the extra was 150€, so if it saves me from one single bumper damage, it paid off.
It´s advertised as "can stop accidents up to 50kph, and reduce severity at higher speeds" i would like to test it on a balloon or something harmless. Curiosity. :D
