Hi
Does the clutch pedal switch serve any other purpose than starting the car and cancelling the cruise control ?.

I spoke to someone who couldn’t find the reason for them having rev hang problems and it turned out to be the switch ?.

surely this switch doesn’t communicate with the ecu regarding powertrain functions does it ?.

thanks

I don't have a definitive answer for you. However, I could definitely see it playing roll in over rev protection. If I thought hard enough I might be able to come up with other things.

Just a FYI Re: the clutch pedal switch:

The brake pedal (or clutch pedal) “bumpers” if missing or have become deteriorated, will also cause multiple operational issues. The threads for that topic is here:

Usually in most manual trans equipped vehicles the whole purpose of the clutch pedal switch is so the car cannot be started in gear - and requires the clutch pedal to be depressed before starting the vehicle. In more modern Mustangs (S550 forward) it’s tied in more with the CANBUS signals and isn’t as easily “bypassed”.

On the older Mustangs, the switch was merely that - an interrupt switch that could easily be removed from the harness and the wires jumpered to trick the PCM/vehicle circuit into thinking the switch was still inline - when it was physically no longer present.

Not sure why anyone would want to remove the clutch pedal switch…. Care to elaborate what the thought is? If it’s for adding aftermarket remote start, that’s been discussed here before in several various threads. If you’re not careful with a remote start add on with a manual trans S550 - and the car is in gear…. be ready to talk to your insurance agent…. LOL.

The Clutch Pedal switch on my 2022 Mach 1 serves no purpose other than illuminating the green light on the starter button. (You can disconnect/remove the switch and the car starts just fine.) It's the clutch apply rod position switch determining when the starter can be activated.

It also serves as a cancellation switch for the cruise control as well.
