Drove into town today, got out, and pressed the ridges on the door handle to lock the car.

Nothing happened,

So I pressed it again. And again. Nothing. So I pulled out the key fob and on about the fourth key press, the doors locked and I went into the store to do my business.

When I can back out, it occurred to me that working so hard to lock the car might not have been smart. Sure enough, putting my hand in the door handle did not unlock the doors. Didn't work the second time, either. So out came the fob, and eventually the doors unlocked.

Sat down inside, pressed Start, and the dashboard says "No Key Detected." Sweet. Held the fob right up to the Start button, and it blessedly started.

I decided that the other errands I had weren't as important as actually making it home, so I went straight to the garage. Now to figure out what's the problem. No "Low Battery" message at all. Just failure. This is not reassuring.

Love technology, document with video and take it to the dealership when it gets too annoying

Mine did the same thing once, I had to put the key fob in the cup holder slot to get it started. Only ever happened once about 2 months ago. It cleared itself after I got home and tried it again.

yeah. I am on my 3rd Ford with "My Key" push button start over 3 years.

Every now and then, they just get a little wonky. Clears right up in seconds. I have never had an issue where car couldn't unlock or start.

This has happened to me a few times where I have the key in my pocket and the vehicle will not detect the key initially. Don't know why it does that.

It can be down to your surroundings and something in close proximity is messing with the signal between your key and the car.

How long do the batteries typically last? I've had the car not unlock when I grabbed the door handle and I assumed it was the batteries. Swapped them out and it hasn't happened again until just recently. It seems like the length of time is about 3 months for me.

This happened to me with the mustang and my previous cars as well! Technology always have a flaw and it's not 100% reliable!

The easier they make it for us the more complicated the system becomes. It is long past time from using a match book to set the points. Oh well, drive it, enjoy it and hope you don't need the warranty.

It's good (I guess) that some of you have had this, too. It's definitely good that it clears up. I will try again today and see what I get.

Yup, mine has done the same thing to me a couple of times. It will tell me no key detected but its right in my pocket while I am sitting in the car. Goes away pretty quick like others have said.

Times have changed! It used to be a close call was almost getting flattened by a semi truck or hit by some careless driver!

I'm not saying this is the cause, however, I am aware that when some fobs of other makes I'm familiar with are in close proximity to a cell phone (ie: same pocket) that similar issues can occour.
