Anyone daily drive a whipple with a circle D converter? I was wondering how is it for a Daily. Ill be rebuilding the trans and thinking about upgrading the converter while I am at it.. The car is 99% a daily car and 1% track.

Circle D 2C with TVS. You don't even know it's there.

I have a Whipple and a Circle D - The car originally had a 245mm 4C when it was NA and I liked it a lot, but you could definitely tell it had a loose converter in it. Once I put the Whipple on and got it out to the track, I sent Circle D the data logs and they convinced me the car needed a 252mm 2C (I think that's right). That slowed the car down, both 60ft and quarter mile.

I discussed this with them and ended up sending them the original 245mm converter which they 'tweaked' for my setup, and I'm happy with the results. On 15psi the car has gone a best of 9.92 at 139mph and a best 60ft of 1.400. On the street, which is 99% of the time (with 10psi), it's still obvious it's got a loose converter, but it drives just fine.

AZ89GT,

Nice job getting a 9.xx!!!
Sounds like the changes Circle D performed on the original convertor worked well!

Can you share your numbers with the other 2 convertors?

Enjoy!!!

I was running the pump gas tune when I went through the converter changes, so it was a little different. I remember the 60ft went from 1.43 to 1.45, and I lost about a tenth and some mph on the big end when I put the 252mm converter in. That was in Vegas a year ago at the SCSN, and the car was running 10.6x on pump gas at 132mph.

Circle D is very conservative when it comes to 6r converters. If you want performance, looser is better than tighter and you have to tell them max performance is top priority.

im assuming you are not using a whipple tune ?
I wanted to do the swap myself but CircleD said the canned tune would not work
and that seems to go in line with what im hearing . My regret is not getting a manual lol

I drove Project Goldmember with a Circle D converter and 19psi on a Whipple Gen 5 3.0L without any issues on the street. The car drove great. Amazing that you can go 8's in a car like that and drive it around on the street like it's a stock vehicle.

Let us know if there's anything we can help you with regarding the converter. We're one of CircleD's largest distributors.

Congratulations on the 9, but you went 138mph on 15psi? What was the DA and elevation? That seems extremely low mph for a 15psi Whipple.

Vegas definitely isn't the fastest track around as the elevation is 2,000ft - I don't recall what the DA was, but it wasn't ideal. Additionally, my tunes aren't super aggressive as I'm more concerned with longevity rather than shaving off a couple of tenths.

I'm not sure what mph you expect from this, but in a car that weighs 4,045lbs with me in it, that doesn't seem out of line.

15psi should be 800hp ish. I'd think it would trap higher than 138 as well.

Well I'm 4230lbs with a full tank and me in the seat, I'm at 2200ft elevation and 4000DA and on the 3.7 pulley (10-11psi) and pump gas 93 I was also running 138mph. On the same pulley and E85 I was running 144. 138mph for 15psi is definitely low compared to what most are seeing from that psi on a Whipple. I would expect almost 900whp with that psi. And high 140's.

When I run the online calculators with total weight and trap speed, it gives me 825HP at the wheels, so it seems to be in line. I believe the rule of thumb is 15psi doubles the HP, so that's in line as well. Different configurations, transmissions, tuners, DA, etc., produce different results, so it's hard to do direct comparisons.

I don't see anyone posting up 1/4 mile times, just trap speeds. What kind of times are you running? I would think at 144mph you should be in the low to mid 9's.
