Just got this warning light on my way home tonight at about 7,500 miles. No reference to it in the manual. Does that mean immediately, or what?

It means you should change it soon. Go to the oil life reset option see what kind of percentage you are sitting at.

Happened to me also yesterday. You can go to your settings and "reset oil life". Not to reset just yet but it will tell you the percentage of oil life left. Im at just over 4500 mi. Have yet to do my first change. I cant figure how Ford decides when the engine needs the oil change. . miles?..hours run? total rpms?

Use the keypad in the steering wheel to cycle through the various options on the screen in the gauge cluster. It's in there somewhere. I forget exactly which tab it's under.

Have you reset your oil life monitor since ownership?

Reason I ask is I've done two oil changes now, one at 1500, and one at 6500. I could swear that both times I reset the monitor but I got the same message on mine last week at around 7200-7300 (and only 700-800 miles after I believe I last reset it). So I'm wondering if there is some preset parameter that we both hit at 7250 or something like that?

After an oil change, does the manual state how to reset the oil life indicator?

Is it the same as the 2016 Focus ST?

1. Turn on the ignition to the ON position (without starting engine). Hold down ignition button.
2. Simultaneously press accelerator and brake pedals and hold them in the fully pressed position.
3. After ~ 3 seconds, the message "Service: Oil Reset In Prog"
4. Continue to hold both accelerator and brake pedals for 25 seconds or until the message "Service: Oil Reset Complete"
5. Release both pedals and place ignition in the off position/mode.

No. Much easier. Use the arrow buttons on steering wheel. Something like go to settings, engine oil life, then reset oil life. Done

DOnt forget you don't push the reset, you have to hold it for ~5 seconds, same as your Trip 1 and 2 tripmeter

I cant figure how Ford decides when the engine needs the oil change. . miles?..hours run? total rpms?

Combination of miles driven, oil temperatures reached, and calendar time. Regardless of the miles driven, it will trickle down to 0% after 12 months time. If you haven't driven it much, after 6 months it will show 50% life remaining.
My car was purchased in July, 2015 and I just passed 2300 miles on it.
