Evening Gang,
In my first post, I mentioned the I recently bought a gently used 18 GT Premium. One of the selling points is that they would change to oil for me prior to picking it up since the car already had 3400 miles on it.
This morning, I decide to finally peek under the hood to get myself familiar with it. First thing I did was check the oil. Imagine my surprise when there wasn't any oil between the upper and lower marks. As a matter of fact, it was on the lower end of the stick! To eliminate my error, car is on level ground and hasn't been started in days.
I emailed the salesperson and the dealer GM about it asking them to look into this. The GM emails back that he will look into it. Also says "if the oil level was too low to operate the vehicle safely, there would be a warning light and a message from the vehicle computer". There wasn't either so we're off to an ok start. Doesn't change the fact that in my opinion, something doesn't line up.
Short while later, I get an email from the salesperson with a detailed explanation how to check the oil (page 229 in the manual). So, I follow it to the letter and same oil level results. Thanks to this board, I find out the correct amount of oil and the capacity of the 5.0 engine oil. That info is also on page 296 of the owners manual.
I do have a copy of the oil change receipt / Internal RO and it shows... 8 quarts. I'm not a certified mechanic at all. I'm simply an enthusiast, as many of you are, that is passionate about toys. Is the technician right? Is the manual wrong? Either way, after I added 2 quarts of the correct Ford weight oil, the oil level is now just below full on the dipstick.
Moral of the story, check your oil! ;)
