Video of the noises and warm temp/gauge reads: [ame]

Comparing to other youtube videos, it sounds normal but i am still curious and worriful! Opinions would be wonderful

Is additional engine noise necessarily bad after an oil change? Cars first oil change at 2000 miles, went from OEM motorcraft syn blend 5w-20 with the standard motorcraft filter to Penzoil ultra platinum 5w-30 with a royal purple filter. All of the vital temperatures are normal and identical to before the change, oil pressure is normal, dipstick shows it has enough oil. No leaks, everything checks out. I'm just curious as to if the additional noise is actually harmful. I want to get it out of my car asap if it is.

Used 8 Quartz, the filter is the right size and is sealed properly.

Car is a 2015 mustang GT with Performance package, the old track packs recommended 5w-50 (up from the standard 5w-20), most people switched to 5w-30 in the non-performance package to help out the engine for the heavier footed daily driver with an occasional track day or two. All the research I've done points to the 5w-30 being alright. Opinions?

Apparently a synthetic oil can "break in" and the noise will eventually subside. I can take a video if needed.

A few people i've asked said the noise is normal engine noise, and you will always get that after a car's first oil change because the oil that ford puts in from the factory has break-in additives. The noise is not loud at all, it can't be heard inside the cabin, only when you open the hood can you hear it.

Though not my choice of oil, I can't see how it'd cause a difference. Maybe noticing it because you're actually listening with the hood open?

Can anyone tell me what the standard oil pressures on the performance package cars are? I'm getting anxious to make sure I recorded my information correctly. I'm idling at roughly 750 rpm with about 30 psi of oil pressure once warmed up. Is this normal?

I'm guessing you're referring to the ticking. Yep, its extremely common in Coyote engines after an oil change. Its annoying but harmless.

My oil pressure is 80-90 cold and 40 hot at idle. Still has factory oil.

From the factory service manual CD:

Oil Pressure - 5.0

Oil pressure @ idle with engine at normal operating temperature 10 –15 psi ( 69 –103 kPa)

Oil pressure @ 2,000 rpm with engine at normal operating temperature 30 –40 psi ( 207 –276 kPa)
Oil Pressure - Ecoboost

Oil pressure (hot @ 2,000 rpm) 29 –60 psi ( 200 –414 kPa)
Oil Pressure - V6

Oil pressure (hot @ 2,000 rpm) 29 –60 psi ( 200 –414 kPa)
Note: The 5.0 is the only engine the service manual says has an oil pressure sensor. The other's have switches.

I read that somewhere else as well, I'm almost positive my oil pressure was higher than 30 at idle before. From other sources I'm starting to believe I am fine. Do you know if the cold will effect these variables? It's was close to 10 degrees yesterday

Oil pressure and oil temp go hand in hand. The higher the oil temp the lower the oil pressure (since viscosity is lower with higher temp).

I changed out to Amsoil 0w-30 and my oil pressure is ~80-90 at cold start. Quickly rises to 100 with little throttle. However completely warm and I idle around 20-25 psi. I should mention that this is in 25-35 degree F weather. (we both live in the same area)

The gauge placement is terrible. You have to move your body to look straight at it for a good read. From the driver's seat your view is at too great an angle to see where the needle is actually pointing.

BTW: I noticed no additional engine noise after the change.

It is normal to have higher pressures with extreme cold (I consider anything below 32F to be "extreme" :), especially on start up if you park outside even with full synthetic oil. Plus warm up time will be longer and cool down shorter. 30 weight generally will result in higher hot temps than 20 weight.

I've never heard of full synthetic or any other oil needing some miles to "break in" after an oil change but I'm not a lubrication expert. Other than some initial "rattle" as the new oil gets circulated after an oil change I've never heard any new or different engines noises with fresh or different oils.

Im uploading a video of the sound and my gauges with the car warmed up, dwaleke can you compare your engine noise to mine? Maybe I just never noticed it and im paranoid and its completely normal LOL

I'm glad I saw this. I'm getting paranoid about oil pressure since mine is now lower then before . Fully warm I'm now at 20psi at idle with factory fill oil. I remember it being higher at the same oil temp weeks ago.

Did you change yours to a different oil or did you use motorcraft 5w-20?
If you are talking to me I've done nothing just driven the car. Topped off the oil level and that's it. It's got 1500 miles now. Your oil pressure seems fine if it's 30 while hot
Mine will be 20-23 psi when hot.
Factory 5w20

When you hear the noise at idle, push the clutch in, I bet it goes away. A few of us are having the same problem on another thread. I happened to just change my oil when I noticed it, but many others hear it without having their oil changed.

One member who has taken his car to multiple dealerships finally had it diagnosed as a bad throw out bearing on the clutch.
