HP to weight isn't the end all be all argument though. Depending on how they built the hellcat to handle that engine, i.e. transmission gear ratios, final drive ratio, and the tune, the gt500 could get knocked off its perch at the top of the muscle car list for straight line stock performance. It will be very interesting to see what happens though. I don't care how much hp they put in that car though, it needs to lose a lot of weight.

An interesting quote from this article from Autoblog.com:

"If the Hellcat ends up tipping the scales with the same heft as the 2014 Challenger SRT 392, that's 4,231 pounds, it would still finish just below the Mustang GT500 with 5.984 pounds per pony. In fact, the Hellcat would have to lose more than a hundred pounds versus the existing car to best the Mustang. "

Should be some interesting races going forward!

Also thumbs up to Ford for being at the top of the HP/Weight in each of those lists!
4430lbs according to ChallengerTalk

On Allpar I've seen it listed at 4439(auto) and 4449(manual). I found that surprising because I expected the 8spd to weigh more, not less.

I think a lot of people are also forgetting GT500 is under-rated, from the stock RWHP numbers it should be making around 700 horsepower too, but be a whole lot lighter.

But either way, the Challenger is a massive, fat looking pig with skinny tires, from the rear it always reminded me of a fat lady on stilts, it could have a million horsepower and it wouldn't interest me in the slightest.

There you go. It by no means is lightweight. I also highly doubt the Hellcat will hit the 200mph mark like the GT500. I think they are setting this thing up to just do straights and quarter mile. Oh well another overpriced SRT that will sit next to the Vipers and Grand Cherokees.

If they don't care about Quality Control issues with SRT Challengers the Hellcat will be no different.

I love the "Do not attempt: Professional Driver on a Closed Course"

NO shit really, I thought they were on I-80 in Ohio.

So Dodge says we can't hit the dragstrip.

Regardless, I thinks its cool. I can't afford it and I highly doubt I will EVER see one on the streets.

Props to Dodge. :)

They are impressive numbers. But obviously it's a one trick pony. The GT500 is more versatile, which means there is some compromise to its drag performance. The Shelby pulls about the same trap speed as the Hellcat, which tells me the difference in E/T is probably attributable to the Hellcat's automatic tranny and more drag oriented suspension.

But hey, bottom line is the Hellcat does its one trick very well, and that's great for people who like Challengers and are mostly interested in quarter mile bragging rights.

I agree as well. But Dodge will probably put some aero kit on it, remove the mirrors, tape all the seems up and hit 199.5 on a downhill slope and say it is a 200 mph car. ;)

But then that won't qualify as FACTORY STOCK 707HP ZOMGVICTORY!

I mentioned the Shelby 1000 and was mauled by men with canes....it was horrific....i can't talk about it.

Funny that they ran that 10.8 on drag radials I believe. Without them it was 11.2 Still VERY impressive but they are already touting a Factory Stock number and they sure as Hell aren't going to have drag slicks installed factory stock. Most of these are probably going to be bought by Boomers with money and cruised on weekends only, like most Corvettes I see. I see new Corvettes putting around under the speed limit on the interstate all the time, usually with a pair of white haired retirees in the seats.

Nothing against the Corvette either, its just the money lies at the top of the population pyramid.
