Wiki can be a great source of information... when information is cited properly.

The idea that ANYTHING that derives from wiki is not reliable is, well... <keeping it nice>...

If that big of a deal, maybe you can post a reliable source that shows the engines are the same or not the same (which is what I guess you are saying is not correct).

I don't really care... same or not, I'll drive this engine until I sell the car or until it blows out all over the road.

The only thing it shares was the block in the 2.0. The 2.3 is a different block with a totally different top end than any Mazda out. So yes wiki is a decent source for information. This is not one of them. Unless that's what you meant by "slight" lol

By "slight" I meant natural changes through the lifecycle of an engine platform. Do your research and you'll see that Mazda L-series (1.8-2.5) all start in life as the same exact block just different bore machined out or crank to get the displacement. This block has been adopted by the mzr, Duratek and ecoboost platforms. the new names are just new changes which for ecoboost would be a different head design and I believe ECS/ECU? (cant remember off top of my head).

Totally agree the head is unique to the ecoboost lineup, anyone remotely mechanically inclined can see that but not much else is truly different. Hell, I bought a Mazdaspeed 3 pcv delete plate and it bolted right on with zero differences. If im wrong though please send a link (not being a jerk seriously interested in any differences). the similarities ive seen and read are great because I can read where MS3 (pre-skyactiv) have issues and fixes, plus parts have already been developed or cheaper.

2.3 EBM is not a new motor. The R&D from other EB motors and the MS3 platform provided the jump start for the EBM aftermarket which in less than 2 years has nearly the same number of companies offering FI upgrades as the 5.0.

There is no holy grail waiting at the end of the tunnel. IMO you would be best served by getting a part that has been surviving the DD grind after the past year or two...

They're testing what's hopefully the final combo today, so maybe we'll be hearing something soon. I was told that they should know in a very short time span if this new design was going to work or if they would be using the previous setup. Fingers crossed for good news!
