Catch can install question

So I installed the ford oem catch can. I cranked up car and went down the road. A friend of mine was back about 100 yards and noticed white smoke coming from tail pipes. I finished drive 20 mins later and he informed me of the smoke. The car drove fine and idled fine. I let the car run after he told me about the white smoke and I didn't notice any such smoke. Just curious if anyone had this happen or what might be the issue. I'm pretty sure I connected it correctly as there is really only one way this thing goes on.

Sounds like you got some oil on the tubular exhaust manifold and it simply burned off. I got a few drops on mine and it did the same thing. Or he was just seeing condensate, etc. When he saw something was it cold outside with a cold engine? Did you get on the throttle at all?

How would I have gotten oil on the exhaust? Just asking. Actually, you know what....I checked the oil right before I drove off just to make sure it was all good cause dealer didn't do anything to my car before I picked it up....wonder if I dropped some on the exhaust..

I may be way off base here but if the smoke was coming from the tailpipes, it couldn't be an external spill, right?

I don't think it was. Or it was condensate...

Well is it normal for the car to smoke some right after the catch can is installed? Just to note....its no longer smoking.

No. Oil drawn through the intake tract and into the engine would cause smoking like that but mere installation of a new, dry separator wouldn't cause that.

LOL. I had to take her ride in for oil change. She's a doc and had patients this morning and she really never has time to get it done. Definitely had a little bit of anxiety this morning....but she made it fine. This new gt500 is nothing like driving my 19 whippled gt. That gt was freaking violent and I wouldn't let her drive it at all. This new gt500 is actually easy to drive and very calm....loving it so far!!

Wes: It is totally amazing to me how different the car can act depending on the driver. Yep, if you wanna drive her like any other vehicle, no problem and if you want to scare yourself, you can do that, too. <smile>

Must be nice to have a physician in the house.

Yea, by no way is the new gt500 soft, its really best of both worlds....drive her easy or drive it like ya stole it. lol
