Looks like the lattice is there to hold the carbon filter in place and the honeycomb grid is meant to straighten the resulting airflow for the MAF. 2018-21s have none of this stuff and run fine.

Sorry for all the questions, but so with the carbon filter removed, the lattice won't have any ill effects when left in I assume?

It shouldn't and might help if it is an air straightener like it looks to be.

Sure, you can leave the lattice in place after removing the carbon filter. "Lattice" is referring to the plastic structure that holds the carbon filter in place. Can't imagine it restricts airflow much.

I'm on stock tune, and have zero DTC's. But I'll also admit I've felt zero difference going from carbon trap and grid insert of my stock 22 to the factory open no-grid intake that was on my 21.

Does it make a difference? I want to believe the dyno's I've seen, but its such a minuscule change that I doubt it makes any real improvements on the road. If anything I think that the 22 has some other ECU changes that Ford didn't announce because my 22 is significantly stronger than my 21 was even with the FP tune on it.
I have experienced this same thing when comparing my ‘20 to my ‘22s/‘23s, causing me to wonder about unannounced ECU changes as you do. I guess there just weren’t enough ‘22/‘23s made and sold to make it profitable for some tuner to look in to.

Ford really should clarify the issue but no chance of that I suppose.

I noticed this extra filter in the lid when I dropped-in a K&N on our '23 GT the other day. Is it just an EPA mandated thing that couldn't possibly have any impact on the powertrain warranty?

I was going to pop it off to check it out, when I noticed the melt-weld tab. Does the filter panel come out w/o "breaking" that tab, or is that just to remove the filter from the lattice? I assume I'd like to remove the whole piece, leaving the honeycomb. Is this the piece people are referring to the "part by the MAF"? Seriously 10-20 HP gains? At the wheel!?

Just remove it. Yes, that's the thing to remove to get your power back.

There are clips around the perimeter of the carbon filter holder that allow you to spread it enough to remove the filter. Hope that helps.

Yea, busted it all out of there and cleaned things up a bit w/ some nippers, including the carbon pad. Definitely noticed. Its like doing a K&N drop-in all over again or better.
