My 23 GT has a K&N drop in filter. I want to remove the carbon filter in the air box but afraid it will trigger a code. Some have said it will, if so does anyone know why?

Welcome to the forums. :like:

Not that I'd do such a thing :bandit:, but no, removal of the carbon trap will not generate a code or harm the car.

If you use the search feature in the upper-right or google keywords like, "s550 mustang carbon trap removal", you'll find multiple threads on this topic.

Real-world, the driver will gain HP, on the order of 10+. The butt dyno will often show improved throttle response with a slight change in air intake sound.

No one has thrown codes, wrecked their engine or had warranty issues.

Once again, welcome.

Keep in mind that there is more restriction in that air intake box and tube than the carbon filter. When you remove it the "lattice" that holds it in will be left in there in the airway. There is also some honeycomb looking plastic in the filter lid, not sure if the pre carbon filter cars had this. I replaced the air intake with an Injen Evolution to get rid of all these restrictions and never got a code.

Theoretically, the only gained power from removing the restrictions would be at WOT at or near maximum rpm, as this is where max air flow is needed. I personally noticed no difference in power with the new air intake until I got a 93 octane tune.

I did my 23 mach immediately 20 miles on it. No codes . A little more tone during WOT. As said before There's alot of restriction not only in diameter but there's a whole lot of mesh going on.

Hey there I have a 2023 GT and I deleted the carbon trap and bracket holding it together the Frist day it was in my driveway no codes no issues
Yep, same here. I removed the carbon filter and it's bracket from the air filter cover. I left the intake tube insert in place. No problems at all.
