Even AJ saving aint much (1 or 2 lbs)...
The lb saving doesn't justify a wing flying away😅. Lithium battery would cost less and save more..
Maybe with the money you save you should look at AJ wing..... Just saying..
Ps.. what splitter are.you running?
Don't get me started on lithium. They can't handle mag ride and DSC. Expensive mistake on my part.

You want to buy an ATX-20?! I know a guy haha

As others have stated, we lay up our trunks with extra reinforcements where needed to support a wing that produces substantial downforce. I wouldn't put the the wing you ordered in that category. Our Fulcrum 14 produces substantially more Df than the wing you ordered and our trunk hangs in there perfectly. Also, the 3 trunks you listed all have fiberglass backing as reinforcement where we use carbon fiber every layer, again for weight savings and strength. I totally understand the budget side of things but theres value in not having to spend a bunch of time adding a bunch of reinforcements and adding weight back to your trunk to support a wing, or like mentioned, having a trunk fail. So yes, we are more expensive than the others but for a reason. If you wanted to do a package deal shoot me a dm.

Heres how we make our trunks.

Heres mounting our Fulcrum 14 to our carbon trunk.
Thanks AJ. I've watched your videos a ton on the subject, which is why I asked the question. I think my question has been answered.

Oh FFS now I need a CF trunk lid I didn’t know I needed. If I’m going to do a Anderson hood I suppose a CF trunk lid also makes sense.

Alright, found a black metal trunk, $275, with the Roush spoiler (Which I would remove). No latch, no carpet, no decklid (or whatever the black plastic is called) but generally good condition. Anyone have any thoughts? Too much?

As for finish. Obviously my car is not black. I was thinking of getting the kids (2 and 4 right now) to spray paint it whatever crazy they want, then put clear over the top.

It sounds like a cool idea. You could maintain the OE trunk lid and substitute an art deco race piece when it makes sense. It’s a great way to involve the kids and make the car quicker. Do it!

Does the Roush spoiler have the standard decklid holes or does it just tape onto a bare decklid?

Either way, you would prefer a decklid w/o stock spoiler holes. Otherwise you're looking at filling them (which isn't too bad with some metal scraps, epoxy and bondo, if you're going to wrap it anyway). I reused my 2nd OEM decklid, complete with 13 holes from the old CAM spoiler and repaired them the cheap way as best I could. It passes the 10ft test for sure.

For metal ones, I think a new one is ~400-500 plus painting it, so if you find a local in a non-offensive color (like black) then that 275 price is pretty good. You'll probably have to buy a latch, backup camera, and the decklid cover too, so the bits and bobs add up a little. The rubber bumpers and latch plastic cover can be reused between the two (your stock one and the wing one when you switch them)

Wrapping any color is easy enough to DIY.

I wasn't too sure about the 9lives mounting (only like 4 bolts?) but then again, my expensive Zebulon wing is only held on by 4 bolts to the uprights, so... maybe its fine.

I do like AJH's thinking on mounting the wing uprights exactly where he mounted them. I'm not sure about the 9lives mounting location, but sounds like you're committed to that anyway.

Roush mounts on the back angle and not the upper face of the lid (if it’s the same as the one I have hanging up in the garage) i.e. I doubt the holes would be covered by a true wing ?

Nine Lives. Houston.

It hasn't shipped yet, and I still have some time if I need to cancel.
I would not mount Nine Lives wing on any carbon fiber trunk unless it's specifically designed to be reinforced in the mounting locations. I mounted mine on an Ecoboost trunk I bought for $250 (which I think was very good price) and then removed it for wrapping ($60 carbon fiber vinyl from China) and the locations where it mounts had impressions in the sheet metal - may have been from closing the trunk (even though I don't ever slam it down). Feels like a lot of weight over not a whole lot of area that already has a hole in it.

Also remember that if it has more than one layer (stock one has another layer of sheet metal on the inside), you would have cut the slots out to get to mounting bolt / nut with a socket - that in addition to drilling holes.

Also, I just bought an additional latch from Levittown so if I have to swap in the original one, it takes about 10 mins.

Thanks for the info, it all sounds about what I was expecting. Except the camera, latch, and rubber stoppers.

As for the mounting, this was kind of why I didn't jump on a wing when the rules changed. I wanted everyone else to do the R&D, and figure out what works. I've seen very little negative, really on any brand TBH. Looking at the DF curves, they are relatively close. And for the price, I think 9 lives is a good route. And I figured I can test out mounts, drill holes, do whatever on a throwaway trunk. I'd have some serious reservations putting a hole in a CF trunk, or even my current trunk.

That said, if you got any negative, on 9 Lives, feel free to shoot me a PM. I actually still have an out (a non track friend said he wants to buy it from me) if I need to go a different route.

The holes aren't a concern. This trunk is just to keep my factory trunk from being destroyed.

I can tell you that even putting the nine lives wing on to measure where to drill holes scratch the shit out of the paint. I was glad I spent the money for it.

Are you trying to get it on the car before nationals? if not I’d just see what else shows up, there should be a wiide selection to check out.

I’ve seen a few 9lives wings up close on other cars, but usually the mounts are custom.

I spent more on the big carbon wing but saved money on a heavier OEM takeoff decklid. Weight between those two options is probably a wash, but the big carbon wing sure does look good.

you should talk to him...

I have a wing on the way, and have no interest in damaging the factory trunk to install it. So I am replacing my trunk lid with something carbon fiber. I know AJ Hartmann has his new deck lid, but $2K is a lot. And yes, I know how high quality his products are, and how good of guy he is. But if I don't have to Spend $2K, I don't want to.

Does anyone have any experience with TruFiber's trunk?

Or Zeta Composites?

Or VIS?

Several MFG's, like anderson composites, say no to installing a wing on theirs, so they are out of the running. I am still considering a junkyard deck lid if the price is right. Any experience from folks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Why not a junk yard oem trunk lid, then paint to match, install wing/spoiler, and put your original lid in storage saving you 1500-2000 bucks.
