The only worry I have, if any, is when the DMV inspector opens the hood and spies the open airbox. It's a brand new car, therefore I'm not sure if they even have to open the hood?

My big worry is in 6 years when I need to get a SMOG. All SMOG stations I have ever been to would most likely question the open airbox and fail visual inspection. Unless I have a Carb #?

Then again... in 6 years a Prius might fail SMOG in California!! :headbonk:
You don't have to wait 6 years. The GT500 had an open element intake for years. At least since 2011. I'm pretty sure other cars out there have them as well. They also have reference books showing the stock engine bays of various cars. You'll be fine.

They told me they could sell to any state but CA and IN or IL. :tsk:

Myself and many others have cars on order coming from out of state, so don't listen to any BS From those guys, especially when they are asking 30k over. Ask them to bring up the order form and point out the non-ca emissions.

Sounds like Future ford in Concord. Great guys.... really  They are still trying to sell a 2013 boss 302 LS for 70-80k.
They got the $30k over they were looking for, I offered $25k and they didn't take it. A day later, they called me and said that the guy did end up offering $30k over.

heh..My car is being delivered to Illinois, then shipping to CA. All of the cars are physically identical, so Im not sure what crack they are smoking. Perhaps you can call Ford Performance and get them in the loop to figure it out.

When you are in CA and you purchase even a new car from out of state, you will HAVE to get it SMOGGED in CA before you can register it. With the SMOG test completed, you will have to go to either the DMV (or AAA if you are a member) and an agent will HAVE to come outside to inspect the car. The Inspection is really comprised of 3 things. 1) to confirm make and model is indeed what is on the form; 2) validation of the VIN; 3) to locate the Federal (white) emissions sticker and to notate that it EXPLICITLY states that the vehicle is compliant with CA emissions standards. Once these steps are all done, the car can be registered.

Note that for MANY years, almost all domestically produced vehicles were 50-state compliant. However, with the 2015 Mustang and potentially other Ford models, CA emissions was an option. (I just ordered a 2016 Focus RS and for sure CA Emissions is an OPTION that must be ordered.) It's great to hear from others that the GT350's are all 50-state compliant. If I was taking delivery, I'd make sure that the MANDATORY emissions label was very explicit about CA emissions compliance.

Yep the RS order guide is way more complicated than the GT350 order guide about emissions. The former looks like the picture, but the latter just says "425 50-state is standard". It's worth noting that the RS will be built in Germany for the entire world, not in the US, so I'm sure they have a bunch of different codes for various emissions requirements.

If its a new car and CA compliant, I don't think you will need to smog it, nothing on the DMV website states that for a new car, it just states that it must be a 50 state car, which the GT350 is.
Trust me. I purchased a 2006 Ford GT, a 2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca, a 2013 Boss 302 Laguna Seca all new and out of state and I had to smog each of them before getting the registration. :)

Whats another $50 on top of the CA asshole tax to register the car. Seems silly since that would not be the case if you did a courtesy delivery though, I talked to my local dealer about that option and they said it would just be titled/registered as any other car they were selling

Agree. The whole process is stupid. And you are right - if the car has courtesy delivery then registration process is through local dealership who is essentially standing behind the certification of the car. Sounds like I'm trying to defend the dmv - certainly I am not, rather just trying to help others on whatthey can expect based on my own experience.

I've brought two cars into CA and bought two out of state since I moved here and have never had to smog during intial registration. I don't antcipate anything different with a 50 state certified car.

Thanks, yeah I was not implying that you are standing behind the DMV in any way, just acknowledging how ass-backwards some (all) of their policies are.

I ordered a GT350 from a dealer in OK, and he put in an option code that had something to do with "CA emissions for a non-CA delivery".

I'll see if I can find the form and get the exact terminology.
FYI, just checked my order sheet, and the option says "NON-CALIF ORDER FOR CALIF REG"

Not sure what ramifications that will have on registration, but I expect that the worst-case scenario is needing to get it smogged, going to the DMV for a possible inspection and paperwork, and then paying the taxes on the purchase (which will be the big hitter).

So I emailed the dealer and told them what I've read here and they responded with this:

"As much as we would like to work with you on the purchase of a new Shelby, California does not provide us a title to vehicles sold in that state. If you have a residence in another state, we can probably work with that."
