I have the jlt intake. Last weekend it was 85* out, I was in stop and go traffic and saw temps rise to 175*. Once I began moving for a while, temps dropped quickly but never below 151*f.
My buddy came up and we went to the hardware store. Purchased a small 5$ sheet of plexiglass and some weather stripping. 30 mins later we had a prototype. Not the cleanest looking but we plan to make a better one using a vacuum machine thingy and some lexan to fit like a lid over the air box.

We then removed the engine shroud and valve shrouds. My temps have dropped over 60*. The lid has only been on for a few days but now my iat's are no more than 5* above ambient and 8-10* above ambient when at long stop lights.
We ran the car around for 20 mins normal driving, then did some nice pulls for another 15min and then took it into town for another 15 mins of stop light to stop light slow driving. When I got home, we let it sit running at idle for another 10-15mins. The lid works like a beast. I feel like some power has returned and feel like we have solved the iat issues.
So far the plexiglass is holding up and air temps remain no more than 10* above ambient.

Did you really think a cai iats would be anywhere as high as jtl or any other sri? Shame jlt wont make an actual cai.
I know that they are ram air intakes but 150 is absurd. even the stock box is cooler then that.
MMR does a nice job of keeping IAT down, but I don't have mine tuned so the car is running a little funky.

it has an engine!
I fully believe iats for a jlt with the tstat and the grill mod it will be under/around 110 iat. Possibly better with a lid like that plexi made one.

Almost always. If I can stay above 40 for more than about 4 minutes it will drop to within 10° of ambient. Two nights ago driving in 73° on pretty open roads at 35-40mph I
AIT was staying at 95°.

Hey Dramad1, thanks for doing that and posting the results. Very interesting! If you don't mind... If you end up making something more permanent please throw out a post giving a little detail. I'd be interested in seeing what you end up with, assuming you choose too of course.

I installed a 170 t-stat this weekend...

Ambient temp was ~92 degrees and I saw intake temps slightly above 150 after being in traffic for 5-10 minutes. Temps were climbing slowly still, but thankfully I got moving and they dropped down to 110-120 while moving a bit better (still in some traffic stop light to stop light).

I do plan on opening up some of the slots on the grill in front of the intake, hopefully that'll help out some more.

Eventually I might end up custom making some sort of lid for the intake if tinkering with the grill doesn't do much.

Took a peak at the CAI today to see if I could find anything that might be contributing to the temps and found that the snorkel wasnt fully seated into the box (glad I paid for the install...).

Was a pain to get it back in there (cut my knuckle up pretty good on the edge of the box) but I got it. Took a drive to see if it made any difference but sadly, nothing to report on the positive side. Updated the spreadsheet with today's findings.

Because we are usually stopped when the light goes from red to green (when the race starts) and the race is usually over before you have time for the IAT's to cool down (approximately +/-12 seconds).
Sorry but no, takes ~5 seconds for temps to drop below 110 or so and the longer you drive the closer it gets to ambient.

Sure, all of my data logs are lying LOL. If my temps dropped in five seconds, I would have made the tread. More than happy to send you some data logs so you can go through them if you like (I have 100s of GB worth)? In five seconds I'm lucky to drop a single degree. I will agree that the longer you drive the closer it will get to ambient provided you're traveling above 40mph and get to do so for more than about two minutes at a time.

I've been watching IATs while making 1/8th mile passes in 90 degree weather, starting like 136F, finish like 104-107F.

Start data logging and take a look at what is actually going on during the pass. I certainly wish mine cooled down as fast as yours seems to be but that just isnt even close to the case for my vehicle.

Maybe datalog shows something different. It's not unheard of, my tbss shows 40psi on the dot of oil press almost all the time but on the aeroforce it fluctuates between 25 (idle) to 45 (cruising).
