CAI vs IAT results

This seems to be a hot topic and one I'm not really sure has any real world impact on performance but I thought it might be interesting to start logging the data and plugging those inputs into a spreadsheet for some (hopefully) realistic results.

Data logs will certainly provide the most accurate results so I'd much rather receive those (screen capture is fine) than observations but I'll plug them all in. Only real limitation will have to be for 5.0s only as I dont believe there is a way to fairly compare results across different platforms.

I have the Steeda CAI. It runs 4-7 above ambient when I'm doing 40+mph. I left my car sitting today and running while my wife was in it waiting on me in a store. I came back and my IAT was 160. Mind you it was like 92 outside and my car is black. Is that bad for my car?

It is what it is. If they sit parked in high temps they will climb. On one of your future trips, note the min temp (after the engine is at operating temp), average, and the max temp you see (in as normal a condition as you can like typical traffic). I'll input the data into the spreadsheet and we can build on it from there. Make sure you provide the ambient air temp too. If you have a datalogger, turn it on and shoot me the results.

it was hotter than hell in johnson county kansas today and my car is black. just put my airraid mit on today with k&n filter. car said 101* iat was 130 to 140 on startup went down to 109 when i got on it. stayed around 111 to 120. ill watch it closer tomorrow.

i saw 145 yesterday in 96 degree humid air after a few stops shopping. went down to 111 after a mile got on it and went down to 107 then hovered around 108.

Exactly the same as my Livernois 'windatorm' aka airaid. My intake Temps are generally 5-7 degrees more than ambient air Temps. As long as I'm moving it's fine.

I didn't have my tuner hooked up, but I did pull some data off the instrument cluster and the ambient readout on the radio. On a 30 min freeway trip, the IAT was anywhere from 4 to 6 degrees above ambient. It was roughly 83 or so degrees in the morning. After that trip, and the car sat in the sun for a bit, I was driving around town in stop and go traffic. Temps climbed up around 120 at 90* ambient. It sat in the sun again, temp went up to 101* ambient, and I was seeing 161* when I started it.

Has anyone tried to move the IAT to a different location ?
we use to do this on the LS2 cars

I think the IAT is built into the maf sensor.

that is my point to take out of the MAF and relocate it .. this is done all the time with Turbo and Super charge systems
