hello all im gonna be getting a 2018 soon after waiting all year for the prices to drop. anyway im aware of all the issues surrounding the 2018s from the bbq tick to the manual tranny problems. i really would like a manual tho and dealerships around my area are still getting new 2018s. my question since these are late builds would the tranny problem be fixed in them? or would i be better just going with an auto and just hope my car doesnt develop the tick? thanks for the help

I bought a 18’ 2 weeks ago. Build date was 12/17. I went with a 18’ due to Ford’s cash back and the dealership knocking over 5k off.

I only have about 1100 miles and don’t have the bbq tick. I went with the A10 trans this time. I had bad notchiness in my 15 GT so I didn’t want to chance getting another manual. So far my 18’ has exceeded my expectations.

yeah ill probably end up with the auto since the color i really want is royal crimson and here they only have auto transmissions left. i really wish ford would have carried over the royal crimson color oh well

Yea I really wanted royal crimson but I couldn’t find one in a GT, PP1, A10, Magneride and Active exhaust which was all the options I had to have. I went with Ingot silver which I always liked and wanted too. Good luck getting the car you really want. Don’t settle.

You should be OK. Test drive one (multiple times if you can) or different ones. Sometimes problems are the luck of the draw. If the transmission shifts good, car tracks good and drives nice to you- both times you drive it, look at it and listen to it, you should be OK. The manual transmission shift breakage issue may be just the luck of the draw too. Cast shift forks are not a good strong design to begin with but there are other factors- cast temperature, the exact metal composition, air bubbles, etc. And also contributing may be use or abuse. Lot of factors involved. Problems can always happen after but if you know what to look for you are on the plus side.

I bought a 2017 Camaro RS with the automatic 8 speed and did not research and was not aware of the A8 issues. Well mine had a bad one, from new. The transmission slipped from new and had I known and test drove it at least twice instead of around the block and watched the tach I would have seen this. Before I bought my GT I test drove 3 different new Camaros- the alignment was off, they did not track well or I felt notchiness in the shifting, so I did not buy one. My GT drove perfect- it does not guarantee something won't go bad but at least it was not bad from the get go.

I test drove 3 new GT A10s recently. One of them I noticed excessive chatter from the engine. The others I did not hear anything. You are rolling the dice getting a new GT period regarding the engine ticks as they usually happen later.
I decided to hold off on buying one even though I could have gotten a base A10 for $31K before tax.

As far as Camaros go, the '19s will have an A10 replacing the shuddering crappy A8. It's not the same A10 as the ZL1 though but I've heard it's very good. But who knows.......

Get the M6 if that is what you really want. I think most of the shift fork issues where caused by drivers beating the crap out of the shifter (based on videos I watched of some who broke forks). I have about 5,000 miles on my 18GT PP1 M6 and I have not had any issues with trans or shifter. ( I don't really slam gears, or do excessive high RPM shifts). My engine did develop a slight tick (at about 1500 miles). I was 2 quarts low on oil, after adding oil, tick went away and has not returened . ( My first oil change was done at about 3500 miles) Good luck.
