Bullitt owners only - How old are you?

I actually am struggling quite a bit sometimes to get smooth shifts and it makes me question my skill. I've never had these issues with many previous (and arguably much worse) manual cars, but in the Bullitt it sometimes is nearly impossible to be smooth. Glad to hear my skill might not be so bad.

You can get perfect smooth shifts if you understand that when going from 1 to 2 you need the tac to drop by 1/3 so 66% of what it was, from 2 to 3 70%, the rest 75%. For example in 1st accelerate to 6k rpm, shift to gear 2 and let the clutch out at 4k, then back up to 6k, shift from 2 to 3 and let the clutch out at 4200 rpm, up to 6k again, shift from 3rd to 4th and let the clutch out at 4500 rpm. If you do this you will not know you shifted it's so smooth. Try it !

Rev-match does that for you too. The thing with either method is you need to give the engine time to drop down to that level, which takes longer than it should, due to its EPA-induced rev-hang. The problem arises when you need to complete the shift quicker than that. The bright side is I've calmed down a lot when driving my car, so I don't have to shift quickly .

61 now - 59 when I bought the Bullitt. The color on my prior Mustang was Orange Fury and it was just too over the top for me. I love the understated DHG on the Bullitt and the lack of badging. Though I love the car chase in the movie, I really bought the car because I am a long time Mustang fan.

Will you please record a video of the EPA-induced Rev hang? I can’t remember ever experiencing this when my Bullitt was unmolested. I am very familiar with it now after some mods. You’ve got me thinking that I may have completely overlooked this before mods. If that’s the case, I’ll stop chasing this gremlin. Thanks

I don't really experience rev hang, although the rpms do take a second to drop down, I guess you could call that rev hang.
Now my 2018 Accord sport 2.0 (6spd) had some horrid rev hang. Traded that one in for the Bullitt. Nice car tho.

I can try, although I don't have a good cell phone mount to record the cluster and I definitely won't drive and try to shift one-handed while the other hand is holding the phone. I'll see what I can do, no promises.
I'd need one of those jigs that reviewers (like the TopNL that goes on the autobahn) can mount in front of the cluster. That reminds me, he tested a Bullitt on the autobahn hitting the max and that car wasn't tuned I don't think.
