So I was at the track this weekend to test out the new clutch and tire setup. During the pass I missed 4th gear and new at that moment it had broke. I pulled off the track, all gears worked fine except 4th. Makes a clunking noise as I am driving and gets real loud when I engage the clutch in 4th. So I'm trying to figure my options. Do I put the stock clutch and shifter on and hope for warranty? Is there any rebuilds to beef it up? Can I get away with warranty with mgw shifter? I ask the last one because I'm sure I don't have all the parts to my oem one.

Couldn't a Ford tech tell someone's been in that transmission - the bolts will have two instances post-manufacturing wear on them (new clutch and back to stock clutch).

How about owning up to consequences of modding your car ?

People complain about the MT82 when power is added, so there are some complete replacements out there... Since there are complete replacements out there, I'm sure there are plenty of used MT82s floating around.

Please don't put it back and take it to your dealer. Dealers have a hard enough time with warranty work without owners trying to pull a fast one.

If it goes in for warranty and they get the the point of opening up and then decide to deny you, you will be on the hook for the remove and replace (at least) which is like 6 hours labor...

A better option may be to just ship the trans to Ben Calimer and have him do the repair and beef it up at the same time for ~$1000 plus any parts for Stage 1. Stage 2 with cryo treatment and polishing is another 700 or 900, I can't recall. That's what I did and it's been fine ever since.

I don't get it. How much extra power do you have from stock? What like 20-30 HP? I see you have a tune?? Sounds like you had a defective transmission to me. How is a shifter or a different clutch going to be the cause of a broken transmission?

My thoughts exactly. I'm not putting a bunch of power through it. My buddy in a whipple/meth s550 was in the other lane, made tons of passes and no issues. It was a slow test and tune day and had about 20 passes before it went. Rebuilding it seems like a great option to hopefully prevent this from happening again. Ben Calimer came as a recommendation and seems like he does some great work. May be time to get into that piggy bank. Any recommendations to any California locals?

replacing the clutch and then taking it to a track sounds like enough to do it to me. When it comes to warranty, the only thing that matters is what Ford says... looking at it from their point of view, I'd say this is a pretty easy one. It would sort of depend on if they've seen this type of failure before. If not, they would start asking questions, and if the OP is not a liar, he will answer them in a way that will make it pretty easy for Ford to say nope.

This is definitely something that Ford would call the part back on as well and begin to research why the transmission failed. Is it really fair to send them on a wild goose chase when we kind of know why it failed?

Oh definitely, any kind of modifications to driveline will be at fault in Fords eyes

Also, can you please elaborate on "I missed 4th gear and know immediately that it broke?" I'd like to hear more about that.
Going into fourth it felt was locked out, hard to get into. When I let off the clutch pedal In fourth it "felt" wrong so I threw it in neutral. And coasted off.

Unfortunately you removed the vehicle from it's "as warrantied" condition when you messed with the drivetrain (including the exhaust).

I'd advise you to do as others have said...send it off to get rebuilt and beefed up and don't even bother ford
