She was dumbstruck

Had another funny situation earlier while I was simply going to McDonald's about 5 minutes down the road. As I was approaching the red light and getting ready to make a right turn, a lady two lanes to the left slowed down about 50ft before the cars at the red light and started staring my car down.

As I pulled up, this was her face:

I tried to be nice and wave at her, but she didn't wave back. Maybe she just didn't see it through my dark tint or something. I almost thought she was an undercover cop slowing down, waiting for me to catch up, so they can pull me over.

Could you have had a Bama or Ole Miss sticker on your car deep down in Tiger Country?:doh:

I get the fact that a woman might be apprehensive of another vehicle shadowing her vehicle on a lonely road or early in the morning. But I cannot understand how one GT driver would be hesitant to wave to another GT driver because :love:they fear being flipped off. I wave to all Mustangers and they wave back. I've been driving Mustangs for all these 50 years and I've never been flipped off by another Mustang driver. But I've been shown the one-fingered salute by a few juvenile Camaro drivers. Maybe drivers here in the South are more courteous.

I wouldn't say it's fear...it's just the whole just-trying-to-be-friendly thing has gotten old, so I no longer bother. Haven't been flipped off (yet) but have been given the stink-eye / side-eye from other mustang drivers enough times with the exception of one dude in a suh-weet old Cobra with whom I got to "play" in between lights and another man in my age group driving a TY GT, who at least said hello / smiled. Unless I am parking with the other stang drivers at the rare cars & coffee, the friendliest folks typically are *anyone except* mustang drivers - be it at the stoplight, starbucks, gas station, wherever...it can even get entertaining. This is just my personal experience. :shrug:

I have no idea if it is a Southern thing; I have lived in NC for 18 years (drove for about a dozen of them) BUT never had a nice car. I did have a Wrangler...but Wrangler drivers are known to wave at each other no matter where you live.

Mustang owners up here have been very friendly in general, although there is certainly a collection of them that really have zero class.

Could say that for anything though.

Throw in the trim you are driving...I think this possibly affects the behaviors of some males in daily life. Some. :headbonk:

Putting the immature ones aside (who get in *everyone's* way), it sounds like Mustang-driving males get along much better among themselves in general while on the road.

What do you guys think? Is it a "gear-head camaraderie" thing? ;) Do many men believe females belong in little econoboxes or 'soccer-mom' vehicles only? addle:

Insecure men resent women driving fine cars. They presume the "car game" is a male-dominated only realm. So you driving a powerful GT is threatening to small-minded males. And if you're attractive and intelligent then the male ego can be further bruised. Hope you haven't been too mistreated by some of these cave men. Lol.

Naaah. Didn't like the occasional scorn but whatevs. Interesting how everyone is different when we're all *outside* of our cars.

I'm always happy to see women driving cars that are actually fun. My initial reaction is "oh hell yeah, that lady knows how to have fun, and I'm taking about a sincere affection for their appreciation of fun cars. I feel the same wether it's a 20 something or grandma behind the wheel, it warms my heart. I think it has something to do with the fact that I often wish I lived in a more fun simple time. I don't know if it's just what I've been fed through movies growing up, but I'm under the impression that back in say the 1960's, most ladies would be thrilled to have a fun cruise in a fast car. Today it seems like 9 out of 10 would prefer a boring plush emotionless luxury suv to drive or be carted around in, and that is boring and depressing to meet me.

Come to think of it, very few people in general are into having fun on four wheels. Easily more than 99% of the vehicles I see on the road are nothing more than boring people moving appliances. We are the rare breed, all the more reason why any like minded auto enthusiast should be accepted with open arms. Definitely no sense in having prejudice amongst ourselves and making our little world that much smaller. Same goes for the fan boys who only appreciate one make, way to shrink your car world into one boring small bubble there buddy... These are probably the same weenies getting threatened by females in the car world.

I'm a car guy and a huge Mustang fan. Now that I'm "back in the saddle" (pun intended) I always flash my lights or give a thumbs up to fellow owners just as I used to when I had my Fox Mustangs when I was a kid.

My wife of seven years wasn't a car person when we met but has since grown to appreciate the hobby and now that I have the Mustang, well she's definitely joined the Mustang club! When she drives the car she gets looks and such but has also had people ignore her or show surprise that it's a girl driving a Mustang. I think any negative reactions by fellow Mustang owners is just wrong. Women can love cars as much as anyone and deserve to be welcomed into our club with open arms. It's important not because of being "politically correct" but because they are just like us! I for one find that very appealing and I'm glad my wife know the differences between a Mustang or a Camaro, knows the history of these iconic sports cars as well as the more expensive models for Europe, etc.

I know that you're not too concerned with what others think, but you have an awesome car, with a great history and you enjoy driving it, talking about it and sharing our love with others. That's what this hobby is all about! :ford::ford::ford:

Probably because chances are higher for these to be rentals, than with a fastback

I suspect many of them around here are. Nine out of ten times they have Nevada plates and Vegas is a 5hr drive.

They prolly didn't wave because they may feel they look like they are in a parade float? No telling what strange things people think. :headbonk:
