I bought the car, puttered around for about 150 miles, and then hit it pretty hard for a bit.

The first oil change was done at a bit under 2k miles with full synthetic.

By adjusting some of my shift points around town, I now average about 21.3 mpg with my GT/PP.

I just read that. With a new GT coming in the next 6 to 8 weeks I'm worried about both methods. Do I chance it and run it HARD or follow the manual and take it eeeasy. Hmmm...
If you decide to follow the procedure, just follow to a T and then drive it as you normally would.

Your MPG depends a lot on your city. You're in New York, I bet even cars that normally get 40+ mpg do poorly in that traffic!

I'm in a city where all the streets are close together, it's very congested and there's a million red lights. I am only at around 15 mpg city.

My girlfriend lives an hour out of town and it's a lot more distance between red lights and I get much better MPG there.

I drive about 12 miles to and from work each day, then fun weekend driving, bought my car just over a month ago, roughly same mileage, 13.0-13.5 depending on how often i hit the highway. Wouldn't say I drive too hard, and every time i drive on the highway it jumps up a few MPG. Have the PP, so 3.73s don't help the MPG but makes me smile :D

I've had mine for going on one year now and just turned over 2000 miles. It had 850 miles on it when I bought it because it had b ecome the salesman's daily driver. I have always gotten around 12 MPG. If I drive like a little old lady I can get 19 MPG but I didn't buy it for the MPG.

I feel your pain bro. Bought mine at 400 some odd miles 'new' even though it doesn't really matter it does kinda irk me sometimes.

In a year you've only driven the car 1150 miles?

Sounds like you didn't buy it to drive either.

All I could think about while watching that video was this: "If the police have to come and get you, they are bringing an ass-kicking with them!"

The manual says this, some website says that. I say just DRIVE IT! Would I take a brand new GT straight from the dealer's lot to a road race competition? No. But, this car was meant to be driven! I'd wager that the vast majority of Mustang owners use the car as their daily driver (myself included). You're not going to blow up the engine going to work and back on your commute.

Just to add my $0.02 on the mileage bit, I get around 19-20mpg during the work week (mixed highway/city) and 25-26mpg on road trips (speeds between 60-75mph). I have a 6-speed and 3.31 gears.
