More particularly on black GTPP's, but I think on any PP having those black wheels glossy and tires with shine on them is a night and day difference in the appearance. When my wheels and tires are dirty (the tires look very dingy and faded without shine) it's like I'm in Klingon cloak mode. I rarely get a comment. But, if they're clean I get a comment every other day. The body doesn't have to be super shiny but the wheels are key.So I've had my '17 GT /PP in magnetic for just over 2 months and have had a few looks and smiles and good compliments. Nothing crazy.
This past week, though, I had stripes put on the car, along with Suntek PPF, and Cquartz ceramic. The car was of course paint corrected and completely detailed along with it. It looks amazing, better than new.
So I picked it up last night from the shop that did all the work and about 2 blocks down the road I'm stopped at a light. Two guys--one probably in his 30s and the other an older gentlemen were staring and admiring my car. So loudly I could hear them discussing it with my windows closed. One of the guys gives me a thumbs up, so I roll the window down and say, "you like it?" He says, "I LOVE it!" I tell him I just had the stripes put on, and he says, "that shit looks GREAT!" I think the shiny black wheels also got their attention. I say "thanks" just as the light changes. As I'm leaving I hear the guy say to the other, "here he goes," in anticipation of the engine sound at acceleration.
First time I've had such enthusiastic response to my car, not a mile from where I picked it up after the appearance work. I got the magnetic because I tend to like flying under the radar, but I have to admit that little encounter was fun. Feels good, man.![]()
Can you post a few pics please with the stripes? What color combination did you go with??So I've had my '17 GT /PP in magnetic for just over 2 months and have had a few looks and smiles and good compliments. Nothing crazy.

I'm going to try to take some more pics in the coming week. Stripes are from Big Worm: gloss black and gloss dark red pinstripes. Can you post a few pics please with the stripes? What color combination did you go with??
Excellent! thanks for sharing.. those look great... I am contemplating stripes on my Deep Impact Blue (white or silver) really like the "gt350" design with the accent pin stripe on the outsides..just breaks it up a bit and gives it great contrast. Great Job!I'm going to try to take some more pics in the coming week. Stripes are from Big Worm: gloss black and gloss dark red pinstripes.
Here's a pic that the shop took:

Thanks, I appreciate it. I am thrilled with how it looks. I thought a long time on whether I wanted stripes, and if yes, what color. I finally decided that a Magnetic car was a big expanse of gray that needed some eye catching "pop."Excellent! thanks for sharing.. those look great... Wow! thanks for the detailed analysis. You just quantified what I have been thinking for quite some time but was not able to articulate it...I actually was going to purchase a magnetic gray GT as my color of choice, but could not find the specs I was looking for. I loved the GT350 magentic with the black stripes and white pin stripe accent, but almost like the red accent stripe even more... My wife and kids do not like stripes... they think they are too "look at me showey" if that's a word... but I really think they look great. When I don't like is when you have just 2 wide stripes down the car with no accent color... that just doesn't do it for me and almost distracts from the appearance of the car....I look at your picture and they do nothing but enhance the look...Magnetic Gray needs something to give it some contrast and pop (even though it is a beautiful color by itself... same thing with grabber blue... too much of that color is overwhelming, but white or black accents really set it off great...I'm saving your post to my Microsoft One Note under my "mods" section... Here is my personal theory on stripes: a Mustang with GT350 style stripes usually has 4 different colors working together:
1) body color
2) trim color--usually the flat black plastic such as the grille
3) main stripe color
4) pinstripe color
Sometimes the wheel color comes into play also, but for simplicity, let's assume black/dark wheels.
My mind divides the range of possible colors into 2 categories:
a) neutral or "blank" (includes gray, black, white, silver)
b) "pop" (blue, red, orange, yellow, bright green, purple, pink, etc)
My theory says that only 1 of the 4 colors on the car should be from the "pop" category. You want your eye to be drawn in by the "pop" color, and then your eyes see the rest of the body. For example, if your car is Race Red, your stripes and pinstripes should both be from the neutral category (white with black pinstripes for example looks great). The bright body color draws your eye in and the stripe contrast pulls your eye along the length of the car.
If your car is Black, or Magnetic, or Oxford White, either your main stripe or your pinstripe can be from the "pop" category, but not both. For example, I don't think Grabber Blue and red stripes should be on the same car. I don't want to offend anyone, this is just my opinion.
Deep Impact Blue is an unusual color because it can almost fit into both categories. In bright light, I think it is almost a "pop" color but in darker light almost becomes neutral. So white stripes with red pinstripes looks good to me in a darker light, but black stripes with white pinstripes looks better to me in bright light. You either have more options or fewer options depending on how you look at it.
Now, I think Ford has done a great job with nearly all of the GT350 stripe combinations. They all work in my opinion. The only two borderline ones I've seen is the Deep Impact Blue with white stripe and red pinstripe, but sometimes it also looks great (plus, "Murica!"). The other one I'm not sure about is Triple Yellow body with black stripe and red pinstripe. On the fence about that one. On Saturday I saw a Deep Impact Blue GT350 on the road and it had the black stripes with white pinstripes. It looked awesome. I love that combination. In the end, it all depends on what you like. But a good rule of thumb is to not have too many bright colors battling for your eye's attention. Good luck--it is a fun thing to do. Like buying a new car again but much cheaper.
ETA: I should also say that I think it's ok to have an all-neutral car. For example, black with gray stripes, or Magnetic with black stripes is fine. It's like leaving your black or Magnetic car without stripes--it remains a neutral canvas. If you are going for the "shadow" or blackout look it definitely works. All depends on your goal. On the other hand, an all-"pop" car does not work, unless you are going stripeless. I will also add that "pop" and "contrast" are two different things to me. White is often used as a stripe color for contrast, and often looks great with a "pop" body color, so there is a distinction there, which is why I divide the colors as I do.
I had a kid do that to me in a very old dodge.... I was smart like you and just let him go... seconds later I heard the sirens...I was at a light and a guy in a red Kia Soul floored it, spinning his tires and taking off. Not sure if that was a compliment or what, but my car was still warming up so I let him fly away.
That's interesting. I think my wife and kids were a little bit disappointed when I brought home an all-dark-gray car from the dealer. My son (he's 11), especially, would have preferred something like race red. I, on the other hand, am not a showy, "look at me" kind of person and liked the "stealthiness" of the magnetic color. After a while, though, I did start to think it needed that pop, but in a subtle way. I contemplated the black stripe/white pinstripe combo you mentioned, but in the end decided to be slightly more dramatic. It's a bit subdued, though, because of the small volume of color which still fits my personality.Wow! thanks for the detailed analysis. by the way.. I am also thinking about new Wheels and debating between Bronze/Gold or Gun Metal/Silver.... I don't like Black because it just disappears on the darker colors such as black, and dib...
I'm looking to get the black with white pinstripes combo on my Magnetic Gray. I do love the red, but since I'm going for a "P-51 theme", the black with whit mimic the invasions stripes seen on aircraft especially Mustangs during the latter part of the war in Europe. The red though does look hot and is enough to make me rethink what I want to do with my car. Thankfully I'm not doing anything til next spring so I'll be sure of my decision.Wow! thanks for the detailed analysis.
