Picking up my GT auto tomorrow.FINALLY.With regards of breaking in vehicle,,How have you newly proud owners gotten into doing it for 1000 miles?.I Know the Manual has it written, but have you all done it by the Book?? I don't want to screw up the engine..

You'll get opinions from drive it like you stole it to never go above 1500 RPM. I don't think either extreme will screw your engine up.

This is what the owner's manual says. I've been going off that.

I would just do what the manual says, and not really worry about it. If you get on it a few times during that time your not going to hurt anything either. Just don't go redlining and slamming gears or anything crazy in the first 1,000 miles.

Just drive it normal, matching 95% of other drivers speed and stopping for the first several hundred miles.

The break-in is no longer about worrying about the engine per se, but just to allow everything to heat cycle several times, wear the slick stuff off the tires, bed the brakes, etc... After those miles are complete, enjoy.

Laboring the engine doesnt mean going to redline... it means bogging the engine unnecessarily.

The biggest thing you can do is varying your speed and stresses... no prolonged droning along at the same speed... drive it like you stole it!

Just make sure to NEVER redline it, before leaving the dealer lot. After that you're fine. :headbonk:
I redlined it as I was leaving the property of the dealer, does that count (I was maybe at 4k rpms max on the actual lot). I hope my car doesn't blow up now.

It's weird with the break in advice. Ford says to basically baby the motor for a 1000 miles. I bought a 363 racing engine last year for my 95GT from fordstrokers.com and the shop that built it said to break it in buy giving it a few heat cycles and then take it to the track and drive it exactly how you intent to drive it for the next 3 year. 300 shot of nitrous and all.
