Mark, did you install the Borla resonator on your system? Interested in what you think of it. I'm toying with trading my Ford Racing Touring x-pipe for the Borla resonator...but I don't want to quiet it down a lot... Thanks!

Yes, the Borla just killed the volume, no rasp and sounded good though. I got a generic Magnaflow resonator that's about half the size and it quieted it down but still gives a good range of volume levels. I've got the S-type mufflers though and that was the biggest difference.

Anyone just bolt on a set or Touring axle backs to the stock system? How does that sound? It is almost impossible to find sound clips of that setup. Would it be much of a bump from my stock PP car?

on an axleback, i would lean toward the stype if your keeping your resonator

Mark, where did you find the Magnaflow resonator? Do you experience any drone with the Magnaflow resonator setup?

Ok, cool. I may do something next month, and have been listening to a LOT of clips and reading everything I can. I want hear the exhaust more in the car, a rich tone with no drone at cruising, something not so tinny as the stock system when the revs go up. I don't care for the rasp of an un-resonated X pipe, so I think the stock resonator will stay on. I don't want my 50 year old ears to bleed or to wake the neighbors (I actually like them).

Couldn't find anything for our car but this was a smaller version with the same connections. Since it's shorter it isn't just plug and play but I took it to a shop and they welded it on pretty quick. No drone, it's still got the quieter side like the Borla but when you accelerate this one actually gets louder lol https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=11379

Thanks Mark! Do you recall what it cost to have the Magnaflow resonator welded on?

I think they charged me about $60. A couple people said they were good so I didn't even check anywhere else. I'll be going to the drag strip tomorrow and if my GoPro decides work this time I'll see if I can get anything good.

That sounds fair. Thanks for all the info. This sounds like what I need. I have the Ford Racing Touring Cat Back exhaust. I like the sound except there is moderate drone around 2K RPMs and it's a little loud on the road.

Np, I'll try and listen closer for drone because I rarely can get on the highway without traffic to and from work. Best chance is my hour drive to the track lol. At what point/rpm is it getting louder than you'd like? And is it really getting too loud or getting to raspy?

I hear the drone right around 2,000 RPM. I don't think it is rasp that I'm hearing. It's really a harmonic reverberation that I think I'm hearing. by 2200 or 2300 RPM it's gone. So far, I have just been staying away from this RPM range - when I accelerate and decelerate - I move quickly though this range. On a different topic, have you done anything to remedy the rear wheel hop with your S550? Thanks much, Mark!

With how much stuff I've put in with the reviews & help from others always happy to share. I really only had wheel hop once after talking more about it, I'm pretty sure I'm just really good at spinning lol. I believe the manuals have much more of an issues then the autos (me). I did put in the differential bushings which people said help reduce it and I could feel a difference as well. I've also got almost every Steeda part they make and I've been very happy with how tight and planted it feels.

I just read this entire thread. Interesting discussion! I also have recently installed the FRPP touring exhaust system after living with the stock exhaust for 6 months. (No headers). I debated between the FRPP touring and the Magnaflow Street. I finally decided the Magnaflow was too close to stock in the sound clips. Not having much past experience with exhaust systems I am quite happy with the FTPP touring. I barely hear it when cruising around town but it comes alive when you get on it. I assume the higher pitch sound at WOT is what you refer to as "rasp"? At first I wasn't sure I liked that but now the extra roar has kind of grown on me.....lol. I don't really notice what might be called drone. I thought about adding the Borla resonator but don't really want to lose any volume.

the touring is nice, if your not looking to get crazy
Very happy with the Ford Racing touring with the resonator in place. Especially after having the Roush axle back. Intend to stay this way unless I end up with the dreaded resonator rattle of which in that case I will install an H-pipe.
