I should mention that the Hood creases will not line-up unless the hood is pulled forward and the gap almost eliminated. This is as it should be, but getting it done, affects latching and fenders. And, as with the trunk lid, extending both out will create bigger gaps at the hinge points. Not as big a deal for the hood, but looks bad at the trunk.

I think there is a certain amount of latitude you need to have on the level of perfection you expect. that being said, you can't allow gaps where the bumper fits to the body and such.

I wonder what the qualifications for working at Ford Quality Control must be? Wouldn't you think they would be very stringent, detailed, precise and disciplined ?

Do they still have a Quality Control area that checks all of the new mustangs?? It seems like maybe someone at Ford needs to tighten up things within that department.

I find it sorta unreasonable to have so many body panel alignment issues with a $40k car in the year 2015 !!!!!

Maybe if this was the Ford from the 80's 90's and early 00's then it would seem perfectly normal lol

I have come to the conclusion that I will demand from my dealer an agreement that if my 2015 arrives with problems that would require an overnight (or longer) stay at the dealer...that they will provide me with a free loaner, each time. If they don't agree, and the car comes in with ANY mis-alignment I will not be buying it!

So, I just went to the dealer to review the work, they are going to (not clean, but) Detail the car for my trouble. The dealer was great, all adjustments look very good and I see not other reason for concern. One open issue left and I am working on getting that minor flaw resolved to my satisfaction.

I also got my car back. After checking the doors and hood, I am fine with the work they have done. They did not touch the rear window and trunk lit after I talked do them and showed some pictures from here. The service man is looking if there is any solution to fix the trunk lit/ left taillight without using force.

Well. As I mentioned already. That needs a couple visits more until all issues are addressed.

Just curious if this is the typical hood gap that others are seeing? I don't have to opportunity to visit this car before purchasing and have been told that the price I'm receiving is crazy and that i should be skeptical on the quality. Any input is a huge help! Thank you!

http://www.filedropper.com/screenshot2015-02-17at33423pm

Specs for hood to front bumper are 4.00 mm + or - 2.3 mm
Flushness is -0.75 mm + or - 2.3 mm

Mine is closer to the Max gap.

Problem is, you almost need to have the hood right up to the bumper for the creases to line up. Same deal on the trunk lid.

This is about more than perfection, although in this day-and-age we should expect it.

This is about a problem with the parts, or the methods to assemble the parts.

The design was not properly translated to manufacturing processes and parts.

What does your trunk lid look like? I had to have mine adjusted and it's still not perfect... The striker on the inside of the trunk causes most of the problems, it can push the lid left or right and up and down.

The main problem is the head of the bolts/screws holding the striker is smaller than the wholes in the in the strike mounting plate, this is supposed to be overcome by the washers they use, but it doesn't necessarily work... if the bolt/screw is tightened too much the washer begins to cave in, which causes movement of the striker, usually in the direction of the tightening force (from above it would appear to go to the left, but in reality it's to the right). The fix for this is to use bolts/screws with a larger head.

There is some adjustment in the hinges as well, particularly the deflection bolts at the very front of the hinge... the one that doesn't appear to have a purpose.

Quality

Really now? LOL....read my post #92. I've been saying this for a long time...and repeated here in a couple areas.

Design to production...there seems to be a problem.
Yes, back in July we started noticing these alignment problems, when the photos started getting more detailed.

As far back as a year ago, the Auto Show cars had problems, but these were pre-production. Figured they would be fixed by volume production. Especially the LEs.

Cush: did your body shop think about replacing the trunk striker bolts or replacing the washers with thicker ones to prevent them from 'oil canning'?

Here is my dilemma, The left (Drivers) side of the car has multiple alignment issues. When the car was a few days old I had it in for them to see it, and program a new 2nd key (which they lost).
1. Drivers hood and fender are misaligned in the center of the hood
2. Drivers Trunk Misaligned against the quarter panel
3. Rear bumper has a gap all along the quarter panel on the drivers side
4. (Its a convertible) the back window is lower on the left than the right, after you look at it for a while, you notice the top is also crooked.

I heard him say on the phone that something isn't right, my confidence level is in the toilet. I contacted the General sales manager, he told me I should have gone to him first and he will get me info on the status. He too, is not pleased.

Its been at the dealer for two days, they DO have a body shop and thats where its been. They have open tickets with ford on the alignment issues as well as a rattle inside to the right of the rear right seat.

Yesterday when I called to see what was going on (they said it would only be there one day) they said they can't release it, ford has to see it and its going to be a few days before we know when.

I love the car, but I am less than pleased.

Trust me, this is not buyers remorse, this is poor quality control, I bought a 50th year car with 50th package to own for the next 50 years, id like it to be straight.
Thanks for your reporting this here. It helps us with heads up. When was your car built? My convertible is scheduled to build next Friday. I am planning to go over it with a fine toothed comb before paying and accepting it.
Thanks,
Dave

My trunk lit looks like some posted with pics here already. Somehow twisted with the left taillight pushed in, the right one lining up, put the rear panels not fitting with the proper gaps - rear window sunken to the left front corner. I better make pictures tomorrow
