S550 Hood and body panel Alignment issues.

mine, delivered last week, has a hood alignment issue and a left side quarter panel issue, dealer said to take it to the body shop of my choice & fax the estimate, could have asked them to make other arraingements but this works for me.

Have bought several cars over the years & this is a first for me.

I've personally inspected these four right from the transport vehicle.
and deem them acceptable for-sale. Made my dealer aware of panel issues (sales guy was / are clueless) I'll be buying from his lot.

There's no-way I'm going to purchase a new car and then take it to a body shop... NO WAY!

i mentioned this in another post. one of the local dealers has a base model v6 on the lot and all the panel gaps between the hood, and fenders is off. the hood is tight to the left fender in the front but not where the hood hinge is, and the bottom of the right fender sticks out past the door edge....

That might be because you are not a dumb ass.

I looked but just did not see the issue when I picked up the car (after work & getting dark probably played a factor).

Body shop says the fix is no big deal (estimate is only 120 & Ford is paying anyway), in the grander scheme of life, just a nuisance.

I understand... had it not been for this forum, I'd be completely blind to the issue.

Now the first thing I when I'm on a lot is check body-panels.

I'm sure the shop will fix her just fine.

Took the Limited Hood Alignment, er, Limited Edition to the dealer as scheduled to address the problem. Techs were courteous and diligent and got it pretty close--much better than it was. But the separation lines are still nowhere as crisp and finite and consistent as a bottom-line, cheapest-on-the-lot Toyota Corolla. But the 'Stang IS considerably faster!

Just think of them as "speed gaps" like "speed holes".

Didn't the blackbird have panel gaps so expansion from heating at supersonic speed made them fit better?

My hood was hard to close, and it seemed like the hood gap was a little larger than it should have been.

Turns out it was just because the bumpers were turned out WAY too high.

I turned each one down about three turns. Then I could close the hood easier, and the hood gap was fixed!

But now the hood moved up and down a little after latching, so I just kept turning the bumpers back out, little by little, until they just touched.

The bumpers being too high caused both issues:

1. The hood was hard to close and was basically just bouncing off the bumpers instead of latching.

2. When the hood would finally close, they were pushing up against the hood, slightly bending it, and making the gaps larger than they should have been.

I fixed my hood gaps. Not too big of a problem, but I'm afraid my drivers side door is going to require work beyond what I'm comfortable doing.
Oh and I just remembered the paint was touched up along the fenders, I did much better job than whoever tried at the factory.
