Thought I’d revive this one. Went to Target with my daughter after school today to pick up a few things. Parked as far away as possible like usual, we were walking towards the store and heard a god awful exhaust and the most obnoxious burble tune I’ve ever heard. Turned around and it was an M4 flying through the parking lot (previous gen before the beaver teeth, whatever chassis designation that is, I get confused by the BMW lingo). Watched him park next to my car (of course he did) and then we kept walking. Am I missing something, what’s the attraction to these burble tunes and exhaust so loud your ears bleed? They sound terrible. I like a loud exhaust but not over the top, ear bleed loud. Maybe I’m just too old to understand…

I agree with you. And out here they just keep revving them as they go down the street get up to 40 let off the pedal and let it crackle get up to 40 and let off the pedal again. They make themselves look like idiots. As far as that burger motorsports piece goes been trying to get that on the M240i for a while but she won’t have it. A lot of fun to drive though. She absolutely hated driving my ‘19 with a tune on it before I sold it.

So... my 2021 Camaro has a factory tune like that. It pops and burbles on deceleration, especially at higher RPM. It also has the factory active exhaust, which is somewhat loud even in stealth mode. I'm sure it's a lot quieter than this BMW was.

I'm a bit of an idiot and very immature I think, because I actually like it. Now, I know it's a question of degrees, and some people might think exhaust like this on a V8 is better than the same thing on a 6 or 4-cylinder engine.

I like to think most people would enjoy the sound of the Camaro, but I'm sure some don't. One thing I prefer over the GT350 active exhaust is it doesn't switch into loud mode if a person pushes the throttle pedal down too far. I remember an absolutely irate (maybe furious is a better word) neighbor yelling at me back when I owned the GT350. I thought he was a car guy, because he is always buying and selling different things. I guess he's anti Chewbacca or something.

Mine will burble a little as well but nothing like that M4. It was loud, like gun shot loud. I don’t mind some natural burbling (I have heard it on the Camaro as well) but these tunes that sound like machine guns are just over the top.

My ‘19 did a little burble and some pops which I was trying to avoid for LEO purposes. Once I got my tune everything went away which was great.

And the exhaust seems a lot quieter inside the car with the exhaust tips behind you pointing away.

I would say it depends. The natural burbles, yeah I don’t mind that at all. The stupid tunes that make cars sound like machine guns or popcorn machines? Yeah that’s a hard no for me.
