What the Mustangs have going for them is that you can still get them with a manual transmission. The M models were talking about all have automatic xDrive and turbocharged of course their ridiculously fast. The only BMW I would ever get today is a BMW M2 or a base M4 since you can still get them in a manual.

All out speed and quickness is not everything to me, I Love The Way a V8 sounds. Sometimes I don't have to drive fast I just love to hear that V8 burbling under load. The feel of a normally aspirated engine as it rushes to red line.

I'm very happy with the speed of my current 2020 Mustang GT. Yes it's modified weighs about 100 lb less most of it is rotational mass, 4.09 gears decent suspension and a little extra power made the car way more fun.

lol kinda, they're two different animals completely. Most buddies of mine that have had M cars say my car is more fun because it's more drivers intense. The BMW removes a ton of that rip roar and snort out of it and just makes a finely tuned machine. It's like choosing between a scalpel or a kabar field knife for surgery lol
When BMW moved beyond the normal aspirated high revving engines that's when they lost that fun factor. I owned 2 E92 BMW M3s and I got to tell you they were visceral as hell.

I agree, I respect the performance of the newer ones but they just lack that soul and driver engagement

Yeah man the e36 and e46 M3s were also a blast to drive and known to be one of the best driver's cars to ever be driven. The E92s were a little more subdued but I know the 335 was a fantastic car at a great price!
And on your post above, i see you prefer the kabar field knife 🔪 me too! But if i ever were to drive anything else it would likely be the latest gen M2. Price ain't bad on it either, it's the long term ownership i can't do in a bmw

So the only way to drive a shifter kart is to get beat by a 13 year old…? No other way?
If you're the type that just wants to go pound laps, then enjoy and have fun beating yourself.

Karts are not the game everyone thinks before hopping into them.

It seems like a small ask, but this is getting super rare. My HPP is an MT82, but it's not available on the new one. The gearbox itself is mediocre from the factory, but with a good shifter and an oil change, it's much improved.

I just like shifting myself. One of the Camaro guys I AutoX against was talking about he got the A10 because it's all about speed and, "This is a race car." Sorry, Pal, we don't agree. This is about me being entertained and it's *anything* but a race car.

I originally thought of my HPP as a discount M2. I honestly don't care about the speed difference. A proper driver in my car would be faster than me in an M2, so the overlap is close enough. When cars get too fast, for me, they turn from fun to work. I just want it to be fun, and it's done a good job at that. I can huck my car into a corner and slide around without being overly concerned about getting into too much trouble on the throttle.

My car has about 400HP at the crank and I'm fine with that. In my youth, I was recklessly irresponsible with about 100HP. in my crowd there was:

Gen 1 RX-7
VW Rabbit GTI
VW Scirocco
Dodge Daytona turbo
GLHS
Datsun 310 (~70 HP and completely under-rated aerial qualities)
22R Celica GT
Cosworth Vega
Mustang GT (normal HP king at 225)
Toyota MR2

Extended family was an Eagle Talon that blew up every other weekend, and he was probably over 300.

I had a '79 Indy Pace Car Mustang with an engine and suspension done by me. I was about a car length off the GT's in a 1/4 mile and the car handled like a complete bag of dicks. It was dead loose all the time. That gang had a hell of a good time terrorizing Missouri back roads and autocrosses. It wasn't about the horsepower, I promise you.

I say that because I’ve driven shifter karts before. Sometimes the 13 yo is faster, sometimes they aren’t. I’d rather be beaten by a 13 year old than to be seen in a Z4 or Boxster.

I don’t get what you mean…? Are you saying they beat the piss out of you because they don’t have suspension or are you saying you’re racing for lap times cause no one actually races them…?

They are a lot of work and a lot of money. Physically, if you aren't driving a shifter several times a month, you can't be competitive. You have to genuinely train to race them. Also, ylou have to have some sort of truck for transport.

Chassis and engine tuning are important. A poorly set up kart will beat the sh1t out of you. A moderately tuned one and you'll just be slow. A poorly tuned engine doesn't really run and that's no fun, either. The "Easy Button" for these problems is to hire a shop and run with them, but that's more money.

Karting is a hell of a challenge and really scratches the competitive itch, but it's a bigger commitment than most realize. If you want to try to race professionally, it's a great training ground. If you're up for a strong recreational challenge, it's good for that, too. It's not very well suited to going out a few times a year, IMO. I raced karts for about 7 years, including a couple trips to the SuperNats. It's just a different vibe and much more business than pure entertainment.

For the record, I said Miata, but I'm assuming that falls into the same category for you.

If you can watch a Spec Miata race and not see the fun in it, we can't be friends. I couldn't give a sh1t as to the external sexual implications of driving a small roadster.

I grew up racing (2 wheels) and came to the conclusion it’s a lot more business than entertainment along time ago. If you believe shifter karts take physical training look into what it takes to race motocross or (to a lesser extent) sportbikes. Not to diminish shifter karts, just saying.

This all started with me making fun of Z4s and Boxsters…😂
