Ford now has my attention. I will compare the GT directly to a BMW 4 coupe (6 cylinder twin turbo). My first car ever was a 66 mustang. I have a feeling the new mustang gt will be the perfect replacement for my current 08 BMW 335i coupe. Let the road tests begin.

I think the EB4 will be very comparable to the new 435i, and the GT will go toe-to-toe with the new M4. Here is a quote from Prakash Patel, program manager for the Mustang, on how the new S550 will compare to the Camaro..

In the stock numbers do you anticipate the Mustang to beat the latest Camaro?
Our focus was to create the best Mustang ever and in course of development, we tested and benchmarked several competitive vehicles including aspirational cars such as BMW M3 and Porsche 911.

I hope so. Can't wait to see the performance results of the GT. If it can go toe-to-toe with the M4, it will be one seriously huge bargain! New M4 should hit 60-70k optioned out.

I have priced the 335i 4 coupe, and you are talking 50-55, with some important options.

Definitely shopping this vs. 2 and 4 series BMW. They might lose some customers to this car, I was shocked that this nice looking car now with IRS will have a nice 5L V8 w/ over 420HP! All for starting probably $32,500 or so. WOW!

And don't forget that the GT comes with LSD standard too. BMW doesn't equip any of their non-M models with limited slip differential. And even though BMW is going to start offering LSD for the 2 and 4 series, it's going to be an added-option cost.

The new mustang has a nicer interior than the 2 and 4.

The exterior of the mustang is just as nice as the 4 and beats the 2.

Price wise no contest. M235i is 44,000 base plus options. 435 M sport 50+ options.

So it is up to the road test, steering, transmission, and road feel.

I really want the ford to win.

Unless you option the BMW carefully, its a lexus. (M235i and M4 excluded)

And lets not talk about how BMW has lost it steering feel on the new 3 and 4.

I thought the LSD was speculated as only an upgrade you'd pay for on the GT?? If standard than WOW, even on a base GT??! but I honestly only started looking at Mustangs last night, haven't liked for at least 30 yrs, so I'm new to this.

Agree with BMWdad that steering feel in the new cars is lacking, that's why I have a 2013 fusion and still a 97 540I. Add both up and they're still cheaper than a 328I but the 540I is faster and with better steering feedback. Seems crazy for a 16 yr old car.

Pretty sad how a car which cut its great reputation on steering and handling has lost steering feel. They should never have switched to electric steering until they found a way to engineer with better than than what's on the F30/F32.

Ford made the LSD standard on all Mustangs since 2011, even the base V6 auto. The Torsen diff was optional starting in the 2012 Boss and later the 2013 Track Pack GTs.

I thought I read somewhere that the standard "LSD" on the 2015 is nothing mechanical but rather using the rear brakes to limit wheelspin and divert torque to the non-spinning wheel, and that the Torsen is only available with the Performance package.

Can't find where I read that now, so I'm possibly not remembering correctly.

I'm not a fan of the new 3 and 4 series BMW's (the droopy nose just kills the look for me) and the new M3 with a turbo is just killing me as well (I prefer N/A engines). I will probably end up comparing a new Mustang to a used V8 M3 sedan. If the Mustang is anywhere close, I'd be very happy.

Here it is:

The Stang has her work cut out for her! Yikes!

http://jalopnik.com/2014-bmw-m3-and-m4-this-is-them-1481018204

German Car Scene reports both cars, as predicted, use a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline six engine rated at 430 horsepower, about a 15 horsepower bump over the old M3's V8...They say weight-saving measures like a carbon fiber roof and an all-aluminum hood help keep the cars under a respectable 3,300 pounds. That power-to-weight combo is enough to send both cars from zero to 60 mph in under 4.5 seconds.

Under 3,300 lbs... very nice! Going to be very tough for Ford to go to battle with the M4 if they weren't able to cut significant weight. Hopefully they surprise us. :)

I wonder if Ford engineers knew the weight of the M4 during S550 testing. Wasn't the M3 and the 911 their benchmarks?

That's what they said. M3 could mean the old E92 or the new F80/F82 platforms. I hope it's the latter, which means they knew they had to contend with a car that's significantly lighter than the previous model.
