Blowfish Bracket Review

Do I take it then from these comments, that most of you are quite satisfied with the Blowfish bracket alone and aren't planning to change the shifter as well?

I cant speak as I haven't had both a MGW/Barton and a blowfish to compare the two but I think the blowfish clears up alot of the issues with the stock shifter assembly. Obviously you dont get the shorter throw but thats why im considering adding in a barton (since it can work together with the blowfish) or the steeda tri ax which is just a shorter shift lever. If having a shorter throw isnt your main goal then the blowfish may be the route you wanna go since everything looks stock up top but the feel is greatly improved. Just a nice drivers mod without looking like/or being a short throw

Picking between the blow fish or MGW is probably just personal preference. The blowfish is a little cheaper and the install is fairly short and very simple.

Id like to see a comparison between the blowfish/barton combo vs MGW

I don't know much about the aftermarket shifters either. What I like about the BF bracket is the shifter being solidly mounted to the transmission. I think it fixes the one major issue that is giving everyone grief.

I install the BF bracket and loved it with my stock shifter. However, I recently installed the Ford Racing Short Shifter and while at first is was fine its now to a point where I can't handle the vibrations and noise coming from the shifter.

I emailed Steve at BF and he hasn't had a chance to test the combination but suggest that it might be due to aluminum bushings instead of the factory rubber ones. Also he thinks the black plastic reverse lockout is very loose and might contribute to the noise.

Do you guys think the Steeda Bushing will help resolve the vibration issue?

I'd sub out the rubber for the aluminum on the tranny connection. You've got sooo much more rigidity with the Blowfish that I can't imagine the solid bushings are needed.

No, the bushing fills in the gap between the crossmember and tranny. Which causes the vibration of the drive train to be transfered and resonate throughout the car. I know because i had it installed with the BF bracket and the vibration was loud.

For sure you shouldn't have these issues with the newer shifter assemblies.
But or me that was half the fun of a shifter talking to me like the old toploader. It shook, rattled, and rolled. My term for NVH. Sorry, I'm just old.

I still have my crossmember bushing installed, minus the center section. The NVH seems fine. The shifter vibrates but nothing stupid or annoying. I really only installed it to buy time until I could buy the bracket. The BF bracket is the superior solution of the two.

Got my Blowfish bracket installed at Blowfish Racing about 30 mins away. Only $63.75 and a free shirt. Love the feel of this thing. Steve must of made it shorter bc the throws are shorter and the shifter is as well.

The height of the BF bracket is adjustable so you could lower the shifter with it. I tried to keep mine the same. Shorter shifting would have to be accomplished with a new shifter, such as the Ford Racing unit.

The height is definitely shorter. The shifting may just be me. 5th seems closer though but its probably just me. Very happy with it.

I suspect you are feeling the lack of slop in the shifter. Stock, the entire shifter mechanism would twist about 1/2" or so side to side before the BF bracket install. That would make 1st and 5th seem a lot farther apart. I'm sure it feels solid as a rock now.

Could be. It is definitely solid. Feels like a bolt action rifle. I love it.
