Been looking at the installation instructions and the video on CJPP for the Ford Track Handling Pack. On page 20 of the instructions here:
https://performanceparts.ford.com/download/instructionsheets/FordInstShtM-FR3A-M8.pdf

It talks about and has pictures of a ball joint removal/install tool used to replace the toe bearings in the rear knuckles. I do not own this tool...but it looks like a big@ss C-clamp, which I do own one of. Is this a Mustang-specific tool? What Ford part number is it? Is there a cheaper tool that can do the job? Here's a picture from the instructions showing the tool in use.

I know Advance Auto Parts (and others) will rent out tools, but if a generic substitute won't work and I need this exact tool, I'll probably buy it.

Interestingly, the video on CJPP mentions nothing about the bearings. :paddle: As you can probably tell, I've never replaced bearings before. Thanks for the help.

mikes2017gt I'm in the same boat and have the bearings and toe link sitting here waiting for me to figure it out. I usually just buy the tools when I need them but I don't want to buy the wrong thing to find out if I bought a different one, it would have been much better or don't rent a "blah blah blah" or you will be hating life, it will be much harder...

A generic ball joint press will work...just make sure you get the correct sized cups and socket.

Watch out, sometimes the loner/rental tools are worn out. Give them a good inspection before you leave the store.

Thanks guys. I've been looking at YouTube vids on the subject and found a few extolling how great the HF kit is for the money. I own a bunch of their hand tools already, so I will probably go that way.

Rebellion is correct, the challenge is getting the right cups and socket. The tool I rented from Oreillys did not have one that was a good fit. I can't recall the size but I had to buy different sockets. It was a pain to get it out and get the new one in...

Not even sure it's worth the hassle. That part of the job was over 50% of the install time, maybe it's just me :(

Well, it's looking like I will still need the tool, for the same use/part. I'm going with an all-Steeda suspension upgrade, but the toe bearings are the one part none of the Steeda upgrades comes with.

I've no problem buying a ball joint press set from Harbor Freight; I have lots of their hand tools and 99% of them are a great value.

Can anyone tell me if this set comes with the proper size cup?
http://www.harborfreight.com/ball-joint-service-kit-for-2wd-and-4wd-vehicles-63279.html

I have no idea what size the bearing is but the press comes with:
Receiving tubes: 3 in. OD x 2-3/4 in. ID x 2-1/4 in. L, 2-1/2 in. OD x 2-1/4 in. ID x 1-3/4 in. L, 2 in. OD x 1-3/4 in. ID x 1-3/4 in. L, Installer Adapter: 15/16 in. ID, Removal Adapter: 1/2 in. ID, Press Cups: 1-3/4 in. ID x 3-11/16 in. L, 2 in. ID x 2-1/2 in. L, Press Adapter: 1-7/8 in. ID x 13/16 in. L
