Like any other vehicle eventually tuners/aftermarket companies etc will find hidden horsepower, that is a given. Manufacturers always leave some on the table. Same for handling and suspension as well. It doesn't hurt to think ahead. It COULD hurt to buy ahead if you don't know what you are getting. I think that is all the OP is getting at here. People like to mod. Best wishes to you CMcNam. :)

True dat.

I guess my better advice to the OP would be "don't worry about it, wait until you get the car to figure out what you need/want from the aftermarket."

I didnt mean to make it sound like everything will be plug and play from 11-14. But I do believe this will be a quicker turn around for mods given everyone's already familiar with the engine and transmissions.

I'm excited to see what the aftermarket does for suspension and the new rear end, however.

I understand your point. I will be curious to see how the changes up top and to the cam phasing will play into engine output modifications.

I am excited to see the stock suspension :) I suspect as people start using them in various places and in different scenarios, we'll start to see things people would like to improve.

I'm actually looking forward to the stock suspension as well with the GT PP getting monotube shocks as standard. That might not mean anything, but there's hope Ford got serious with their performance parts right from the start.

And? Why would they advertise parts for a car that isn't even on dealer lots yet.
Yes, my point precisely...I think it's too early to talk improving something that we don't have enough information about at the moment. Even though the 5.0L engine is carryover, there are enough detail changes that I don't think it's necessarily a straight one-for-one move.

On the other hand, you can be guaranteed that their aftermarket offerings for S550 are already planned out, in the cue, the next catalog updated, the website is probably nearly ready to be switched over. They're just waiting for the green light.

The market will be ready very early for aftermarket parts. This video, featuring Ford Racing, was from December last year, and parts were already under development.

Whilst I can appreciate it doesn't seem to make sense to plan modifications for a car we've not driven, so we can't tell what needs to be upgraded but, lets face it, we know the mods that are likely to be required. Ford has to meet strict regulations which means quiet exhausts, higher ride heights etc etc, something the aftermarket can take car of for us.

Those two mods (exhaust and lowering springs) would be a must for me, as would wheels that better fill out the wheel wells :)

You are correct the car isn't out yet, but the answer is easy….

MONEY. They are a business. If you are the first ones out of the gate, you have a leg up on the competition. Aftermarket Mustang parts are a HUGE industry.

I think there will be parts (CAIs, axle-back exhaust, wheels, etc.) available day 1, since the manufacturers now have measurements.

But i agree with the conservative sentiment that perhaps it's best to see what Ford is selling as standard before we decide what's needed.

I am taking that a step further and not ordering until I see some comparative test results, particularly PP versus non-PP. For me, it would be pretty easy to tweak the suspension of a non-PP car with just what it needs. But, who knows WHAT it needs?? Does it need what the PP gives? Heck if I know.

Knowledge is power and we still don't know a whole lot.

I agree with the wait and see doctrine. I'm just gathering as much information as I can at this point because as you say...knowledge is a commodity.

My first inclination was similar to yours. I was going to buy the GT Premium with out the Performance Package and do the Mod's myself. Hwever, after researching the cost, I decided that the Factory installed Performance Package is a really good price deal. The front Brembos brakes alone are worth $1,500. Some after market mod's would be easier than others. The 3.73 w/ Torsen rearend is worth another $1,000.

For me at this point, I'm getting the GT Premium w/ PP. I'll powdercoat the Gloss black wheels a nice silver, drive the car for awhile as is and see whats needed or not.

Oh there is every reason to be THINKING about them, there is zero point in BUYING something at this time. ;)
Thinking is the right thing to do right now.. Some people (like me) get pretty deep into builds and with a proper plan ahead of time you won't waste money testing things out. I did that with that with my BMW when I first bought it and wasted some money. Took a break to evaluate the car and now it'll be featured in performance Bmw soon. So to the other guys, it's not wasting money to have a basic idea of what you want to accomplish with your car
