What are everyone's thoughts about autocrossing a GT500? As far as road courses go, I live in a black hole,
4-5 hrs away, in all directions. AutoX events are held locally by the SCCA at airports & parking lots.
I suspect that a Miata will hand me my arse, but it could be fun.

I imagine it’s like hitting carpet nails with a tungsten hammer. It’ll be difficult but it’s capable of outstanding performance.

I’m going to auto x mine. My first run in this car will be on the 20th
Be sure and post here how it went. My son'law rally crosses a 2001 Subie awd sedan, but grass/dirt and mud ain't my bag. I've never even attended an auto cross, but I'd like to give it a try.
Is your run on the 20th. a SCCA region event? How do they put cars in classes?

Try to max negative camber on your front wheels before autocrossing. It's easy to cord the outside of the front tires if you don't. Have fun!

Classing is in the rulebook on SCCA's webpage - if you haven't modified yours, GT500 is classed is SS (Super Street).

Go, have fun and compete against yourself first. Also watch the cones. Our body work and cones probably not a good combo.

Can it be done? Sure.

Will you be even remotely competitive? Probably not.

The weight and lack of straighaways where you can use your power is going to really hamper this vehicle on short auto-x courses. But it sure will be fun going sideways around every cone.

I want to auto cross as well. We also have an 02 Miata I'll use for that! I'll save the big bad GT500 for HPDE events.

I’m curious to see how I do this season. I usually place in the top 20 out of around 100-120 cars. Granted that was with a 2015 v6 set up for AutoX. This will be a totally different experience. Should be fun though. All the camber and sticky tires should help
