Sport+ and track mode on the premium also increases throttle response. Whereas hitting the traction control button twice loosens up the nannies a bit for more spirited driving. You'll be able to spin the tires a bit more and maybe get a little sideways before the traction control kicks in.
Close but sport is supposedly different then Sport+ Sport just changes the traction control settings. Sport+ supposedly changes some other tuning aspects of the engine and the traction control.
Thanks for the input, guys. :)

Mmm... So basically, the base car has no ability to have a throttle response or transmission shift points that are nearly as responsive or as high revving as the Premium, correct? With that said, I suppose you can get around the shift point issue by using the paddles but the throttle response is an issue that cannot be addressed on a base car.

By the way, one other question: Can both the traction control and Stability control be fully disabled regardless of base or premium?

Hold in your brake and hold in the traction control button for 6-7 seconds until message tells you traction control is off. Have fun!

I tried both yesterday, S on the transmission and S+ on the toggle at the same time. My impression was that the rear end feels much heavy'er and is pulling back a bit. According to the manual the S is only useful for going uphill or pulling a trailer etc. So I guess Sport+ is all we need :-)

Really? I had the opposite reaction. S on the transmission felt aggressive and shifted very hard in comparison to D, and rpms went higher before shifting into the next gear. Lots of rev blips on downshifts too... makes a lot of noise, like you're revving the engine every time you drop a gear. Deceleration is much louder in S than in D, and lasts longer due to the higher rpm band. I felt like it drove faster but that could just be my imagination since everything was louder and the gearbox seemed angrier. Also cruising at 60mph in S mode with 3.15's was around 2200rpms... much higher than when cruising in D.

This is totally wrong. Pop that gear shift in S and the car suddenly feels like a race car. More aggressive throttle response, higher revving shift points, louder high revving downshifts, etc.

Yes, this is correct.

So I suppose those with a base car and not a premium aren't missing out on much since it seems that just putting the selector to "S" livens up the car substantially. No discernable difference in feeling to "S+"?

The S+ mode is transmission in S mode + steering wheel in sport mode + sharper throttle response.

Supposedly S+ enhances throttle response, too. It must, because Ford says it does, but the effect is subtle. I do think the shift points are even more aggressive with the toggle in S+ than with the shifter in S.

My favorite part of either mode is that the trans shifts down as you slow, unlike in D. That means if you slow to turn at an intersection, the car is in 2nd gear when you press on the gas, and off you go. As opposed to being in 3rd or 4th if you leave it in D, where you get that Novocain sag in response when you first get back on the gas, and then it downshifts a gear or two and you take off. I HATE that, worst part of an AT, and S/S+ mode fixes it.

Just wanna add this but on autos if you drive with just the transmission in S (so paddle shifts) and the toggle on normal it gives you paddle control but will still downshift or upshift for you if it thinks you need to. If you have both transmission and toggle on S/S+ then you have total control and the car wont shift until you hit the paddles

Thank you for clearing that up! It seemed redundant at first to have two modes, now not so much anymore.
Do you prefer the toggle mode or the shift knob mode?
I was wondering if you use the toggle switch in sport or race mose are suppose to leave the shifter in D or does it need to be in S?
I tend to use the shifter mode, as it's easier to get in and out of, and I can't notice the difference in throttle response. Also, no matter the toggle mode, unless the shifter is in S, the manual gear selection with the paddles isn't "sticky." I had an example of this today. I was in D and S+, the car was running in 4th gear at about 40 mph, just putting down a straight road. I paddle shifted to 5th, and within a few seconds the car shifted back to 4th! No particular need to be in 4th except that's what S+ calls for in those conditions. I don't like argumentative cars. In the same conditions with the shifter in S, the paddle shift would have put me in 5th and it would have stayed there more or less permanently, until I slowed way down or stopped.

What if you use both? Been driving a lot in sport+ lately on the toggle switch, the gear shift mode stayed on D, haven't tried both yet. The downshift is indeed more aggressive in sport+ and the car breaks more on the engine than in normal drive... still curious about using both though...
Doing both engages the flux capacitor. Guys at the track doing this with e85 are running mid 9's. ;)

the only difference i have noticed between the two is that if its on sport+ with the toggle and i use the paddle shifter it will switch gears for me after redlining ...and when i put in on S on the trans it doesnt kick in the next gear until i click the shifter to do so...

This has always been so confusing me to me and it still is even after reading all of this, lol. I have the steering wheel in sport mode but I only put it in S. Sometimes I'll turn off traction control, sometimes I don't. I still don't see what Sport+ does that's so different.
